is this a GMC factory color scheme in 77
1 Attachment(s)
I picked up these fenders to start the rebuild of my '77 GMC. I planned on repainting the truck solid white but I find myself strangely liking the copper and black on the front fenders. Was this a factory scheme or just a repaint I really cant tell as the copper is original but the black seems like not so much.

The color is called Russet. it was standard on my 78..i don't think it was availale with black. i have seen it with a light yellow color center stripe.

I have seen a couple of trucks with that scheme. Whether its stock or not I am not sure.

I can't answer your question, but my dad bought an '84 K20 from a farmer down the road the year before he bought my C3500. 350/4-speed, High Sierra trim, and a real pretty dark bronze (I think the proper name may have even been dark bronze) on black vinyl, with cab lights. Really sharp truck. It had stupid low gears or we'd have probably kept it, though I wonder what kind of trouble I'd have gotten myself in with a 4x4 that already had some imperfections, as opposed to my pin-straight 2WD 1-ton, through my teen years. :D

Do you still have the SPID with th trim and color codes?
A factory Russet truck would be a code 68. The only secondary colors I am showing in 77 are 12 White, 60 Santa Fe Tan, 65 Buckskin as being used with 68 as a regular production option. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipcrea...del=ChevyTruck Some color shift here but the codes are correct. |

no spid, it was long gone when i got the truck. Not much of anything original left on the truck for that matter.

I dig the combo but I think it would look better with the trim separating it

Too bad... suspect it was not black but its always best to know. If you do decide to go tha dark the factory trim would help a lot. Or if you are not firm on a color maybe some of the specials will appeal to you.

thanks for the link, some nice looking different trucks in there. The truck will have trim added for sure.

Re: is this a GMC factory color scheme in 77
If you are doing the full trim instead of paint, how about a wrap vinyl insert like a carbon fiber between the moldings? It would give a nice classic look at a distance yet up close have the softer color of the carbon fiber with an updated texture. Pretty much the same as the trucks that had the woodgrained sides.
