Car 4 speed shifter placement?
Hey all. I've been back and forth with a fella about a 66 C10 project. I'm headed out to see it Thursday night but I caught a detail in one if the pics. The ad stated it was a inline 6 with a Muncie 4 speed. I assumed the granny gear 4 speed. He sent me a pic and it looks as if it was a 3OTT truck And someone changed it to a floor shift. I suppose this is either just the original 3 speed with a floor shift conversion, or perhaps it's a Muncie M20/21 car tranny. The shifter seems really far back, and I really love bench seats. Have folks used floor shifters with bench seats and if so, is there a special shifter to move it closer to the firewall?

Re: Car 4 speed shifter placement?
I have a heavy duty Muncie 3-speed in my 64 C10. I use a Hurst Master Shifter listed for a 67-72 truck. It is very close to my stock bench seats, and only works with the seat adjusted all the way back, but I am tall, and fine with that. Been driving it that way for many years now. I assume you could use the same shift handle with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter assembly with a Muncie M20 or M21.
The Hurst stuff is VERY expensive nowadays, by the way....... |

You could use a shifter handle like this if you are using a bench seat. It gets the shifter room to move in front of the seat.
