Torn Project
We would like to introduce project "TORN".
This project started as a conversation about another truck we had for sale on ebay. After a couple of hours on the phone we decided it would be best to start from scratch and build one from ground up. With the ultimate goal of competing in the OUSCI in Las Vegas after SEMA, we demand many things from TORN. Built on a custom frame with C5 running gear, powered by a single turbo 5.7 LS Built by Thompson Motorsports in Texas, controlled by Haltech Current suppliers are - Throttle Works - MHT wheels - QA1 shocks - Nitto Tires - Kendall oils - Thompson Motorsports - Benny Maxwell at Axsent (concept drawings, logos, design) Here is a link to the project page. http://www.throttleworks.com/projects/65?page=1 http://d34o9zloxofqxs.cloudfront.net...main_photo.jpg http://d34o9zloxofqxs.cloudfront.net...irst_photo.jpg |
Re: Torn Project
Very cool and different build. It would be nice to see an AD auto crossed. There are a couple C10 I see on the tracks but no AD's.
Following along. Marc |
Re: Torn Project
I'm not normally a fan of theme trucks but that is one good looking truck that just sits right and looks right. I think it looks great because you didn't go overboard on the military theme. The insignia and color do a great job by themselves without any more embellishment and the rest of the paint job adds to the total look.

Re: Torn Project
A few years ago there was a thread on this site from a guy that set an Ad up for autocross that ran really good. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=535417&page=2

Re: Torn Project
That's a great looking AD, hope you post the full build here!

I like new builds

Re: Torn Project
I just went back and went though the build page. You guys do some serious design and build work. I'd say that one should give the current hot dogs running the Goodguys autocross all they can handle.

Re: Torn Project
Sorry forgot the specs.
5.7 Iron block LS Running on E85/98 Engine dyno numbers are north of 800hp - will require traction control. We may run methanol injection in order to keep intake temps in check on the road course.... No intercooler. |
Re: Torn Project
Tell Benny that I tip my hat to his skills as an artist because I actually thought the first drawing you showed was an artsy fartsy photo rather than a drawing. That man has some skill.

TORN up on the frame jig. The C5 suspension install is fairly straight forward, wheelbase will be set to a match the concept drawing as close as possible. Custom bedsides will be fabricated in order to match the wheelbase. The C5 with it's transmission in the rear will aid in traction out of the corners. QA1 shocks will also add to keeping speeds up in and out of the corners.

Re: Torn Project
Love the build. I've been looking into building my 54 into a Bonneville racer.
Do you have any more pics of your rollcage? Especially the rear hoop and floor attachment points? Chris |

I looked into it years ago and there aren't/weren't many classes that pickups fit in well. Do a lot of homework before you start building. |

I've scrapped my original plans of building off the original chassis and am doing a chassis swap. Which is why this particular thread caught my eye. |

Whitedog76,
Here are a couple pics, don't have a clear one of the base of the rollcage, I will try to get some this afternoon. We built the perimeter frame with 2x3 tube which moves the cage connection points to the outside as far as possible and also eases mounting of the cab. Re: Torn Project
Awesome. I really like how it's coming together. I'm planning on using a Trailblazer chassis vs. an S 10. The center part of the frame has a huge drop in it. Doing a perimeter frame similar to yours may be the way to go.
Thanks Chris |
Re: Torn Project
Whitedog you may want to pull a tape on a trailblazer before you commit to it..I think it may be a little wide for an ad truck..I can't remember who but there's a trailblazer swap on here somewhere and that's the issues he ran into..
