aiming headlights

I have a 72 C-10 and need to aim the headlights. I used to watch my Dad back in the 50s aim them against the garage door. Is there a better more accurate way? any ideas will be appreciated.

Park on an empty road at night, cover one side, adjust the other

The Hoppy. Hard to find, don't think they're made anymore, now that no two cars have the same headlights. But back when we all had the standard round or square, this was it:

Funny you mention the Hoppy. I had to replace a couple of broken adjusters the other day and thought about it but couldn't remember the name. Back in the day (SoCal) AAA used to have a roller setup for a free speedometer check. They would also adjust your headlamps for free with the Hoppy.

Anyone know how accurate they are? I wouldn't mind having one but don't want to shell out $50 for a vintage unit if they merely get you close, since I can get close without it. But if it zeros them in accurately and tightly, that'd be great.

The setup hayhauler71 has used to be the standard for aiming headlights. It's going to get you as close as you're going to get.

Here is an alternative method that doesn't require any tools other than a screwdriver and a roll of tape. I used this method and it worked fine.
