70 Bellhousing?
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys. I have a 70C20 I'm putting a new 350 in. It has the 4 speed. But The two bottom bellhousing bolts are coming from the engine side instead of the trans side like the two top. I was under the impression you had four bolts coming from the trans side so you could take the trans out of the bellhousing for easier work.
Any ideas what's going on here? |
Re: 70 Bellhousing?
That's how GM did it. You can absolutely remove the trans with the bellhousing still installed on the engine you just have to reach up from below and work those two lower bolts out. You can do a clutch job and never remove the bellhousing from the engine if you wish.

Re: 70 Bellhousing?
The old cast iron bell housings were used up through 72. They bolted from inside the housing on the bottom. The 73 up used an alum. bell housing. They bolted from the outside. If you are putting a later trans. in the older BH you can use bolts & nuts.

Re: 70 Bellhousing?
Ahh great, thanks guys for the info. There's been a lot of "customization" on this truck before I purchased it. I am in the process of fixing things correctly.
