bought a 6.0 with 4l80e. now i have questions..

I found a great deal (or so i thought) in buying a 6.0 with 4l80e still attached. around 100k miles. i knew i would run into issue because the wiring harness was hacked and no computer. Sadly, i didnt know 2007 was a weird year and it could have one of two ECM or PCM etc.

What is the best way to identify what this truck originally had as far as a wiring harness and computer?

I plan to go through with i think current performance and have them build one from scratch with their computer, transmission controller, tac module and pedal but i need to know what to tell them in order to get it right. This harness is going to cost me more than the motor ha!

any help is appreciated, sorry if this is a widely discussed subject i didnt do much searching before.

Does the harness you have now, show a section for a TCM controller, or does it just have a Range (PRNDL) plug and the main trans plug?

Do you have any of the DBW stuff from the donor, or is ALL that missing?

I'll check but I don't have any of the dbw stuff there's a package deal at current performance that includes everything needed but it is pricey. This is not an area I want to skimp on though as I really don't want to fight any gremlins with wiring down the road, or atleast minimize the possibility

In 2007 they changed the truck body style and the new ones got GenIV engines. They also made some of the old body style with the GenIII engines and called them Silverado Classics but ive only ever seen them in 1/2 tons, so you probably have the newer one. Post up a pic of what you have, they're pretty easy to tell apart.

No production GMT-900 pick-ups had a 4L80E, They switched to the 6L90E in 3/4 & 1 tons, The 1/2 tons still had the 4L60E for a couple years.

GM sold 2007 Silverado Classics in 3/4 & 1 ton versions.

And don't forget my favorite, FLEET PURCHASE! Anything in a commercial chassis or from a fleet purchase is usually on the classic setup (vans and commercial trucks have been 2-3 years removed in some cases).

That's a gen 3 engine. It has a drive-by-cable throttle body, return fuel rail, and mechanical fan. It's probably not a 2007. More like 2003 (or earlier).

Im guessing this is going to be a 2002. The cable throttle body means it could have come from a newer van, but the intakes on vans don't have provisions for mounting the vortec cover that this one has. It also doesnt have a van fan on it. Not sure where to exactly find a year on the engine, but a lot of the parts will have build dates cast into them, like the throttle body and underside of the valve covers.

It looks like the van disptick as well. Tho I did get a van with vortec cover posts in 2003.5

Casting #'s are on the lip of the block just under the front of the passenger side head looking down and in.

I'll snap a few more pictures Friday and I'll start disassembling it to see what all needs to be replaced.. I feel slighted and dumb for not examining it more before buying.
