Do any of you like the factory stance?
 

I had a friend who would lower every truck he ever owned but I never did. I noticed on here it seems the first thing most guys do is to lower their truck. Am I the only one on here that likes the factory stance?

I just don't get why they think it's better. They go through a lot of trouble and even cut the frame for what may be just a fad. Some of the lowered short beds look ok but I have seen some lowered that to me just doesn't look right at all.
The same with the big wheels but at least they are easy to change. Maybe I'm just getting old but I like the old school look not the latest fad look.

It's just personal preference. I don't know why people like a lot of things, but I prefer to spend my time with things I can change, rather than that which I can't.

Stock is the best stance, bar none, for "me". I will admit that I can and do like a well done lowered swb truck - they look good - but I still wouldn't lower my swb (if I had one, that is). I'm not personally a fan of a lowered lwb C10, or even more so, a C20 in any circumstance. But, again, that's just "me"! Some people obviously like them and that's all that matters. There are plenty of lowered lwb C10 owners that can't fathom what makes me so happy to tool around in a bone stock 3/4 ton too. However, I'd submit that if you did a poll on here, slightly more folks prefer stock stance for their own truck. Well, maybe... Ha. Bottom line, it doesn't matter - do what you like. Maybe avoid irreversibly cutting the rare birds... and enjoy.

I have nothing against lowering if that's what you like. As I said I had a friend who always lowered his trucks (this was 30 years ago). I never lowered mine and we got along just fine. As I heard someone else say, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
It's just that some talk as if something is wrong with the factory stance and they are fixing it.

Stock stance C20's are awesome. The 8 lugs, the larger tires, the "all business" attitude. Any serious "work" truck looks great at stock height. The C30 with a flat bed, the airport fuel truck survivor, the grandpa fresh GMC with original hubcaps.

However, starting with a plain jane 2wd C10? Drop 'em all, even if just a little. Sorry, the stock height and dinky tires aren't aesthetically pleasing for most enthusiasts' eye. There's always a place for an all original vehicle of any type (even something like a totally stock 1976 Ford Torino is cool), but something as minimal as a 2" drop does wonders for the overall appearance.

They've got a lot of rake to them (in the HD trucks anyway) but I like it. People raise, people lower. I just stay the same. Hubcaps coming soon...

Just install bigger tires. I have 15x8 ralleys and 255/70/15 coopers on mine. I think they fit the truck just fine.

I've lowered some in the past (like 25 years ago) but I like to work my trucks so near stock height is best.

Belly dragging on the ground cockroach style doesn't do anything for me.

I like the look of some lowered trucks, but I prefer mine stock height. Years ago before the advent of air bags, lowered trucks rode like crap, too bouncy. Haven't ridden in an air ride but I bet they ride much better.

Don't like lowered at all. Stock height or (for K-series) moderate lift.

Yes and No, I really don't like knocking-off parts everytime I hit anything bigger than a tar strip, but I like when people ask me if my 2wd truck is a 4x4 ... even less.

My '71 had the perfect amount of rake but sat way too high from factory so (just starting it's resto now) I'm eliminating 2-1/2" from the fender gap up front and 3" out back, so when it's done it'll look like I think a 2wd should.
My daily driver ('03 rcsb) is about to get the exact same treatment.

A truck is meant to be a truck, not a car.
One can do anything they want to their vehicle, but I like mine at stock ride height.

i think most people just want to look a little different and it just so happens everyone seems to go low. myself i did like the factory stance but i also wanted to be one of a kind so i turned a 2wd into a 4wd and made it super short just so when i goto a car show nobody has a truck that looks like mine.

I like them the way the General made them.

I saw a slammed (a couple inches off the ground) square body crew cab 3/4 ton at Home Depot tonight. To me, it was hideous.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

X 15 on that captain, Stock height is my bag, if I want to change mine a few turns of the screws on the hellwig overload springs in back puts a slight rake into the look. Leaf spring heavys look a bit different than the coil brothers.

Funny this should come up - I was in the car driving ahead of my wife in my truck last night, and spent more time than I should have looking in the mirror watching my truck go down the road. I'm always eyeing it in parking lots and such because of the statement the moderate rake and 235/86-16's give it, but rarely get to see it with somebody else driving which is when it really makes the statement. I just think stock stance on a C20/30 is the best profile any of our trucks ever had. A C10 needs the right tire combo to keep from looking like it's got car tires under it, and a K series doesn't look too bad with 31's, but I really think those who never give stock-slung trucks a chance are going to look around some day and regret chopping every one they owned beyond ever being returned to stock. It's like making a Cummins run like a Buick 3800-series V6 - totally muzzling it.

NO!! I like lowered 2wd trucks. However, I won't put anyone down for liking the stock height. Different strokes for different folks. If we all liked the same things, the world would be boring.
