When it rains....it pours............
I have a 1997 GMC Sierra K1500 with the 4.3 V6 and 4L60e trans. This morning I was following my wife and daughter to the local IHOP to meet some of her church going friends for breakfast. When I took off from the stop sign onto the main road, I gave it the gas peddle and all of a sudden the rpm's went way up and the trans was slipping. I had to stop twice (because it wouldn't move in any gear) and cut the truck off. Sat there for a minute and started it back up and took off. it would go for a little ways and start slipping again. When I got to IHOP, I put it in reverse to back in a spot and I had nothing. I turn it off in park, start it back up and get it into a parking spot. This is all happening in a 2 mile drive. I had to repeat the process 3 times to get it home. I had the trans rebuilt 4 years ago and have not had any issues until now. I checked the fluid cold, then started it up and checked it. Fluid level never changed. OH what could it be.....Pump?

I wonder if it's a sensor issue

Re: When it rains....it pours............
Tim,
I can only hope that's all it is. I just bought a '95 Silverado for my son to drive until I can replace the motor in his Grand Cherokee. Kids never listen when you tell them to check the oil. Now before anyone says I should make him pay for the motor, believe me, he is. He works for me during the day then delivers pizza's in the evening. I have gotten the $2600.00 free labor out of him. I guess we will be sharing the Silverado for a bit. It's always something with these gas powered jalopies. |
Re: When it rains....it pours............
Oil level didn't change from turned off to running? That would also make me think pump. You can hook up a hydro pressure gauge to the trans and see what kind of line pressure its making to give you an idea.

Re: When it rains....it pours............
That's a good idea Tom. I'll have to do that. I'm thinking about going back to a horse & buggy. I think a pro street buggy pulled by 2 horsepower would be one of those "Dare To Be Different" rides. lol

Re: When it rains....it pours............
I used to live in upstate NY. Mom bought a 3yr old buggy horse off some Amish people. That o'l guy is still giving rides 25yrs later!!!! Doesn't brake down either. Needs a cat converter though the exhaust is bad.

Sounds like it needs a mud flap to.
