Full Convertible Rocker Boxes worth picking up?
I got ambitious and cut one out! I have found a full convertible Jimmy at a wrecking yard with good rocker boxes. I know these are not reproduced and several people are looking for them but it is a TON of work to cut them out at the wrecking yard. Then once they are off and at my shop there is a ton of cleanup cutting off all of the extra metal before shipping them. In all honesty it is more work than I want to do but I really hate to pass them up. I already got the upper windshield frame off it.

been looking for those for a year. Just finished welding up fabricated boxes this weekend. Murphys law. Sure someone can use them.

I would think someone could. A ton of work to get them out!

I still haven't made an effort to get these out. It is still so hot here that it is hard to get too ambitious. May start tomorrow.

Got one out! I am into it over 4 hours. 2 hours cutting it out at the wrecking yard and and a little better than 2 hours cutting all of the excess metal off at my shop

Any chance the top is still on that truck? I have been looking for the metal piece that the window weather molding pushes into on the driver side.

The top was long gone. All I got was the upper windshield frame and the rocker boxes

Re: Full Convertible Rocker Boxes worth picking up?
I know I purchased a set years back and had them shippgreyhound from San Diego to Binghamton, NY and it was only like $95. If you can find a box (or make one) I don't think the extra weight of the excess metal would change the price, so you could save some work. I shipped them back to the Napa Valley area for around the same when I sold off my parts and projects when I moved.
I'd be tempted to pick these up, depending on price, just to have incase I bought one. Good job recognizing parts that needed to be saved! |
Re: Full Convertible Rocker Boxes worth picking up?
with 3D imaging the rocker boxs can be reproduced with new stamping dies - also with the 78-91 the slanted section can be modded for use 2 clear the toeboard section

Re: Full Convertible Rocker Boxes worth picking up?
Not too worried on the shipping end. I would actually prefer to cut as much of the excess metal off anyway to make them easier for me to box/ship. I have seen people make their own but these would be for someone wanting original ones.
