Doug Nash "part time conversion"

The 74 Blazer I just bought has this DNE (Doug Nash) sticker on the dash. Can anybody help me with details of what it is? Thanks

I would guess that you have a np203 transfer case (full time 4 wheel drive) that has a part time kit installed. Be sure to lock it into 4 wheel drive once in awhile to keep everything lubed up good in the transfer case.

Hey Frenchy, I saw you other post where you said you found it at an out of town wedding. I thought to myself: "I wonder if he brought the trailer to the wedding, *just in case*!" that would be awesome!
I agree that this likely has a NP203 Transfer case with a Doug Nash Part time conversion kit installed. I looked at the pic of your build sheet but did not see any reference to what kind of FWD you have. What does your 4WD Lever look like? That is usually the easiest way to tell, provided it has the original knob on it. NP205 (factory part time four wheel drive, with locking hubs) have selector knobs that look like this: 4-L N 2-H 4-H http://www.fourwheeler.com/features/...potters-guide/ NP203 Identify: Cast-iron housing Low-Range: 1.96 Lubricant: 85W-90 gear oil Notes: Many of these full-time transfer cases have been converted to part-time with manually locking front hubs using a Doug Nash-designed kit, now sold by MileMarker. Depending on OE application, input spline counts are 10, 28, and 32. |

It'd have to be an NP203 to need any part time conversion, but I'm not familiar with the Doug Nash conversion. I'm going to guess it was installed by a previous owner. I remember conversions being available for them, but like Jasonb mentioned, there was a lubrication question about them since it's a splash design. If it's lasted this long I guess the question is answered though. What kind of front hubs are on it?

If you've got it in a spot where you can jack up the front end, try to spin a tire by hand while watching the front driveshaft. It should try to turn the front driveshaft with the hub locked and spin freely in the unlocked position. Those same hubs will give you part-time 4wd without the part time conversion but they only unlock the front wheels at the hubs and the front driveshaft still spins full time.
