Had a minor setback

So last week I thought it would be a good ideal to get my truck running because I was sick of pushing it around. I put in my new wire harnesses, battery , fluids etc and went to break the cam in. It started up and I noticed I had no oil pressure, I had never driven this truck so didn't know if the gauge worked or not. About 5 minutes into the break in it started knocking, and it got worse so I shut it down. I also never had reverse in my newly rebuilt trans to top it off. I pulled the motor and trans and sent the motor out to a buddy of mine, I thought it might have been a bad cam break in but it wasn't. He tore it down and the guy, that make his money rebuilding motors, had the crank ground down .020 and proceeded to put it back together with .010 bearings. Guess micrometers aren't necessary when rebuilding motors. When it was being done I did research on no reverse in rebuilt powerglides and found if you use the gasket on the rear pump pre 67 glides it won't have reverse. I tore it apart and pulled the gasket out. I picked up my motor with a new crank and put it in Friday, started it up yesterday, broke the cam in and everything is working, now I am ready for paint. It is the first time this truck has moved under its own power for 8 long years.

Wow.
Don't know if I should feel bad for you or happy.
It is never a good thing when you pay someone to do a job for you then have to do it all over again.
The good part is that it is mobile under it's own power.
So for that I am happy for you.
When you do a complete resto it always takes longer than you want but I have been watching your progress and you are doing a top notch job.
Congratulations on your progress thus far and I believe that it will be on the road next year.

That's a great looking truck you have started there!
I was once given a freshly built 283 that was knocking. When I tore it down it was MISSING a rod bearing!
A little Powerglide trivia. If the starter ever fails on your truck you can push / pull & when it gets somewhere around 35 mph the trans will turn the engine & you can start it!

Glad to see she is running. Bummer what you had to go thru though.

Sad to hear about the initial start up problems. But glad it all worked out and the new motor is purring! Best feeling in the world is driving them again for the 1st time. Have yet to experience that with my 66. Been almost 3 years into mine. :chevy:
