Spindles, calipers, clearance

I have a 96 2WD 2 door Tahoe and want to run (275/60/15's) on 15 X 8 or 9" front wheels with stock diameter rotors but, use a better than stock calipers. I think the more drop in the spindles (3" vs. 2") will maximize clearance between the inside of the wheel and more powerful calipers; allowing for more wheel backspacing. Someone out there must have taken this approach? I need the benefit of your experience and technical recommendations, thanks, norv.
