Thinking of parting ways with my K5

Sadly I just don't have time nor the advanced mechanical skills for my K5. Thinking about letting her go to somebody that will do something with her. My work schedule and family life takes all my time.

What would y'all say the value of my K5 would be? It was repainted by the previous owner and the paint is "15 foot" paint job if you know what I mean. I have sourced many "unicorn" parts in the past year which I would include in the sale. It would include OEM fuel tank skid plate that came on the truck as per SPID, OEM tow hooks, OEM period correct dog dishes and OEM inside tire carrier with spare freshly Powdercoated steelie wheel. The original SPID is still in the glove box. The original VIN plate is also on the door sill. The rockers are still there and are solid. Minimal rust on this truck. It came from Arkansas. All the badges have been replaced by the PO with repro badges and still in good shape. Y'all know how expensive repro badges are.

The K5 has fresh 31x10.50 15s BFG ATs with 20 miles on them and recently Powdercoated 15x6 steelies. I'd also include a set of OEM spare glass for the hard top. The top is a double wall with a couple of stress cracks, but in overall good shape. I had the hatch professionally refurbished and painted with a textured type white paint with UV protection. I have all the inside guts to the hatch too. I also would include brand new exhaust manifolds still in the box. The engine is the stock 350, but it's rather tired. Gonna need to be rebuilt soon. It was running hot and it needs a new fuel filter. The truck was registered and passed inspection last year in Texas.

What do you think the value is?

It's probably only worth about 500 bucks. I'd be willing to give you $600 if you deliver it. LOL!!! Kidding of course.
I have no idea of the value of the k5' nowadays. The prices iv seen lately are just plain crazy. But that's good for you, the seller! Post a few more pics and I'm sure others who keep up with the market will chime in. Best of luck to ya.

I'm sadden to hear that you are parting with it. It looks sharp. How about some interior pics?

A buddy just sold his non-AC 70 CST Blazer that looked "tired", had some rust, more than you describe, and was missing a lot of key pieces for his $10k asking price.

I know, Pete. I'm working 12 hour days and get two days off during the week. I just can't justify spending time on the truck when I have my family around. Did I forget to mention it's a factory AC truck too?

I was thinking I'd ask for a firm 12k and I'd still be losing out with all the extra parts I'm gonna include. I'll probably even toss in a MSD HEI Dizzy, MSD coil and Holley fuel pump. All new in the box. I think that's a fair price. I'm actually drafting up a Craigslist ad right now. Gonna take more pics tomorrow.

Totally understand and it sounds like the right decision but hard At the same time. There's always going to be another one if and when you want another Blazer. $12k seems really reasonable - granted I'm not in Texas very often (but one of my brothers lives outside Ft Worth) but I've not seen many there. I'd ask at least that and make it exclusive of the spare parts you've collected. Can then sell the parts to recoup the expense or use as leverage to sweeten a deal. The guy who bought my buddies blazer I mentioned was from Houston - saw the k5 a couple of years ago here in ABQ at a bar/brewery and left his contact info. My buddy rang him up and sold it to him for the asking price.

A friend has asked me to help him find a Blazer in good condition. If you will be selling this one, please let me know via DM. Thanks!

Yeah, it's sad to hear that you've decided to sell. That's gonna make some other guy happy though. I've owned mine almost 10 years and I made up my mind back then, that I wouldn't sell, no matter what. So far I've been real happy with that decision. I've sold too many vehicles that I wish I had back. Had to learn my lesson at some point! As for how much you can get for it.. I'd guess that since it's so clean you are easily in the $12k range. You get the "right ass for the seat" they won't even haggle with that price.

Well, I did it. She's on Craigslist. Getting a few emails already. I might have set the price too low. Just wanted to be fair and hope somebody within our community snags her up.

Sold my 1970 today. She hadn't seen the sun in over 16 years. I have to admit, I fell in love with her all over again once she was outside. Almost went back on the deal, but the new owner and I had shaken on the deal already. It was a bitter sweet day.

My blue K5 sold today. She went to a good home with some big plans for her. Only thing that sucks is the guy is a local. I live in small town of 2,500. Gonna see her around all the time.

It wasn't even 24 hours and it was on eBay. The guy that bought it sold me a "she's going to a good home" story. Guess he figured there was enough meat left on the bone to flip. I messaged him on eBay last night and asked what his reserve was and he said it was listed locally for 22K. Don't know what this guy is smoking.

Glad it sold Eddie - drop by and say hi now and again. Curious what the flipper expects to get for it.

Its a totally legit move by that guy. But its a punch in the gut to see your baby back up on the block after you "trusted" the buyer to take care of it. Don't know what you sold it for, but it won't help matters any if he ends up getting his reserve at 22K, showing you that you left money one the table with the deal.

No way that truck is worth 22K, but there is a sucker born every minute. I was gonna drive it till the 350 blew up and believe me she was getting close. Then I was gonna drop a crate in her. She's not even a "CST" like he describes. PO put that emblem on there. Anybody that knows can read the SPID, but an unsuspecting newbie might get suckered in. I totally agree it belongs to him now and he can do what he wants with it. I just didn't care to be lied to. Oh well, on to the next.

There is zero chance it sells for that. I would not be worried about that.

I think mine is on par or perhaps a little nicer, not much, and I did an eBay/off-eBay deal at $18k and I think/know I overpaid....but it was the right one for me.

Nothing like zero integrity on the flippers part. Sadly you have to almost take emotion out of the deals anymore. People just say what someone wants to hear so they get a better deal. The no call-no show ones make up about 75% of the buyers market it seems. The description makes it sound like a full restored Blazer needing a couple engine seals and hatch attached. Hopefully no one gets burned by him. That's why I have a hard time buying sight unseen

I would defiantly make sure he at least transferred the title. In Texas you can go online and fill out a form saying you sold it and they have X amount of days to get it transferred. Not only will you not be liable for anything that happens with the vehicle, but it also puts pressure on the buyer to transfer it into their name. I found this out the hard way when I got a red light ticket in the mail a year+ after I sold a Jeep to someone I thought I could trust. Ever since then, I always remove my license plates when I sell a vehicle.

cleszkie 10-18-2016 07:18 PM

Re: Thinking of parting ways with my K5

In California, there is a "Release of Liability" form attached to the vehicle title. The seller fills this out with the buyers info and sends it to the DMV when the title is signed over. From that point on, the liability is on the buyer, regardless if they transfer the title into their name or not.

I would have loved to buy those wheels and caps off you! For what it's worth, Ebay auctions on these have not been strong recently so I doubt he's gonna get anywhere near his made up $22k. Only one bid at $10k so far, I've been watching them closely, just picked a 71 CST up off another board member.

Re: Thinking of parting ways with my K5

I sent a message through ebay and asked if the title.was.n hus name and this is his reply......"Title is in my buddies name. Clear clean title sigbed up ready for next owner. Had it for 2 yrs, not sure if true cst or not, it has the badging, thats about it"
