what do i have???

im trying to find parts for a rear end rebuild and i do not know what spline count my axles are. the truck is a '72 GMC C25 with the dana 60 rear differential and 4.10 gears. what spline count did these come with? the obvious answer would be to pull the axles and count but i want to get the parts here before i tear into it. also , are there any good seal and bearing kits out there? otherwise i was going to just get what i could from rockauto for good prices. the plan is the replace the axle bearings and seals, check insides for any wear and swap insides for either a powertrax no-slip or spartan locker, and then clean and paint housing. any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed

Re: what do i have???

Well, assuming it's an 8 lug, pulling an axle is so easy...you don't even have to jack the truck up. And that way, you will know whether you are ordering the right parts.

Just undo the circle of bolts that holds the flange on the axle to the hub, and pull it out. Goes back in just as easy.

It "should" be a 30 spline with either the 127" or 133" wheelbase.

Tim, do you have the sheets that would include the K25 for 1970? I have a K25 for 1970 and I have an axle assy from a 72 C20 and want to confirm what parts I can use from it.

Just Google X510-8DSD pdf (~3MB) for your own copy.

"This catalog contains applications and part listings for front and rear axles which fit vehicles from model
years 1967-1978. For information on model years between 1978-1998, please refer to catalog X510-9DSD.
For miscellaneous models from years 1979-1984, please refer to X510-7DSD"

Info everyone with a D60 "should" have. BOM numbers are a great way to confirm what you have or are looking at.

MP's Tim, the Enchanter.... thats great! :-)

Did you have any problem downloading the PDF file?
Unfortunately the good Dana link www.2dana.com/pdf/x510-8dsd is apparently dead, time for more research....

Re: what do i have???

Yes, but not at the Dana location.

See below.

http://www.canadawideparts.com/downl..._X510-8DSD.pdf

There you have it.
Stop saying the word!
How do I know to stop saying it if you don't tell me what it is?!?!?
