"Driver Quality"....

So what condition is a part in, if it is described as "Driver Quality"?

Some of the parts I see listed as DQ, are in worse condition than the one I want to replace.

Why are you replacing parts? Is it to restore the truck, or because the parts do not function correctly? I'm thinking when someone says a part is driver quality, they are giving you a heads up that it will never do for a show truck.

Its a subjective black hole, unless its crusty enough for someone to think they can get more using the work "patina".

I have a '72 that the outer grill has 3 or 4 dings and the inner has a couple pieces broke out of it. Kid in my neighborhood hits a deer with his '71 and takes out his front end. I give him mine thinking I will just buy a "nicer" one for my truck.

Come to find out that some guys "really nice driver quality" grills are about as bad as the kids with deer hair all over it.... Quess I will order myself an aftermarket grill assembly.

I sell a ton of parts. The words,, "really nice" and "driver quality" have never come to mind as a combination on anything I have sold. I have used the phrase "shop truck" sometimes when describing parts.

To me, driver quality means it will have some blemishes but will fill the whole left behind from a trashed one. Aftermarket in many peoples minds is not the same as OEM driver quality in fit and function.

Fred, I have seen many of your posts for selling parts and trucks....you are a straight shooter!

To me "driver quality" is just an acknowledgement that it's definitely not show quality. Beauty (or "driver quality") is in the eye of the beholder.

Anytime existing appearance comes into the buying decision on a used part, get pictures, then ask questons why the seller rates it as "X" condition if additional clarification is needed.

Drive quality is like that girl you knew who....

I should not even bother. It's in between junk and nice. Lol

To me, "driver quality" means "it will function and look like it's from a 'daily driver' vehicle."

special-K 10-05-2016 04:55 PM

Re: "Driver Quality"....

daily driver is the vehicle you put the part on, not the part. When a part is called driver quality it means it's not perfect, doesn't look new, it's not for use on a restoration or a show vehicle. It can range from a flaw to beats a blank. It's up to the buyer to decide if the part meets their needs or not. I named my '67 ground-up project "Driver Quality". Although I am completely building the truck with all mechanicals new or rebuilt and everything functioning, it won't be a pristine garage queen. It won't scream money. It will be a used old truck that looks good and its fun to drive. All sheet metal is used OEM. It may never get a shiny paint job.

LOL...Thanks Tim :)

Was really talking about the descriptions people add to used parts.

Words mean nothing, everyone has a different opinion as to what terms mean. Pictures. I would never buy/sell a part without some.

Thanks, I do the best i can. I NEVER want to be accused of misrepresenting my parts. If anyone wants some good laughs sometimes, you should read the descriptions on some of the old trucks I sell. I definatly rag on them if they need it.
