1997 C1500 Rear Disc?
 

I am looking into doing a rear disc swap on a 1997 C1500.

Been thinking of finding a late 90's caprice rear with disc this way i can get the disc and a narrow rear. Or i may narrow my rear and do a disc conversion?

How will this affect the stock master/prop valve and the ABS system?

What is the best route to take on this conversion?

Going with a 20" Raceline wheel.

I would just pick out a rear disc brake kit and install it.Its a lot easier then a rear end swap that never came in your truck.Plus the car rear ends are weaker then a trucks.

I just seen that kit doing a web search. I don't think you could part it out for that price?

The instructions on the kit do not mention anything about a master cylinder? Is it not necessary to change the master/prop valve when going to disc on rear?

I have not but plan to use this kit in the future.

Typically, the prop valve needs to be adjustable to dial in rear discs in a swap application. It's also common for disc/disc set-ups to utilize a master cylinder w/equal sized pots vs the common staggered size disc/drum set-ups use. That being said, once the system is bled & topped-off, it shouldn't matter much (the staggered pot size would just need to be watched more closely).

A different bore master cylinder might also be desired to help dial in pedal pressure vs stopping performance.

The breaking on these trucks leaves a lot to be desired as is. It has a very soft pedal. I have read alot about using a master from a early 2000's truck to firm up the pedal.

I would research bore size for those early 2000's trucks spec'd w/a disc/disc set-up & compare.
