Headliner removal...
I want to remove and repair the headliner in my '77 this weekend.
Is there any trick to getting the headliner out? Looks like I just remove the trim and it should come out. Any Gotchas I need to worry about? Thanks, |
Don't forget to remove the sun visors and dome light assembly too as well as all the trim. Depending on the material used, when I removed and refurbished my headliner from my 78, my skin itched like h*ll because I think there is some fiberglass in the headliner backing. You might want to wear gloves, long sleeves and a cap.:D

Sounds like a job my kids can help me with. Have one hold up each side while I take it all apart. :)
Thanks! |
Good job for the kids, Mine like to help me too. Just make sure they are wearing enough to keep the fiberglass off of them.

if youre having kids help make em wear the disposable masks that wont let fiberglass get intheir lungs not good for a young kid

Update...
I removed the headliner successfully. Pretty easy. Didn't have the kids help because of the fiberglass.. The reason for the removal was that the vinyl cover was sagging pretty badly. Got some spray on adhesive, and after pulling the vinyl liner off, liberally sprayed the adhesive on and reattached the vinyl liner. It's not perfect, since it had stretched out a bit over the years from sagging down, but except for under the visors, it looks pretty good. Installation was a little trickier than removal. I left the 2 rear trim pieces on for each corner and worked the back side of the liner onto them while supporting the center, front of the head liner with my head. Once in place, I re-installed the visors and from there, it was just a matter of re-installing the trim pieces and findng the screw holes. Thanks for the help/advise! |
I still need to remove mine and fix it, to much to do and to little time to do it in.:(
