Removing gear lever

Hi guys, I am about to replace the gearbox in my '67 GMC with a Turbo 700R4 and am stuck, I need to remove the gear lever from the transmission and don't know how. I CAN take off the top plate on the gearbox, but there must be a way to remove the stick only. Can anyone help please?

Re: Removing gear lever

Push down on the domed ring and twist. You should be able to pull it right out.

Thank you Sir. I logged on and saw your reply no more than four minutes ago. I went out, followed your advice, and out it came!

I am in your debt.
