Anybody have a clue what this is and what is it's purpose? It is bolted to the A/C box inside the engine bay. It has a pigtail hanging from it.

An old cd ignition box. Ancient tech!!
Similar to the msd ones that are around today.

That appears to be a vintage Hayes Ignition module,

Don't have a pic of this yet, but seems the PO has another box mounted on the driver side inner fender, close to where the regulator is mounted on the core support, and it says " battery isolator ". It looks like a small metal box. thought you might know what these were for....maybe for lights or radio, etc...

The isolator is for dual batteries. You can drain the one running 12v appliances and have the other to start the truck. Then the auxiliary battery charges when truck is driven. My '72 has this set-up

i cant see any evidence of a aux battery...unless placed somewhere in the rear

Could have been for the battery in the coach of the camper.
