1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
Hello all,
Recently picked up this truck and will post pictures of the item in question, it looks like some type of tray that is on a hinge bracket that pull out from under the dash, it looks factory and matches the rest of the interior in the truck. Drink Holder at drive in movie or something like that? The truck is all stock from what I can tell and had its original owners manual and service agreement manual in the glovebox, factory black and still has its original paint but not show quality, body is really rust free and interior is stock with the seat cover needing redone, 235 6cyl and 3speed manual. Thanks, jp |

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
cool :D
but definitely not a gm accessory that i've ever seen, still cool though |
Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
that is very cool, never saw one of those either. I'm assuming it was an option or someone added it. Maybe a drink tray, while driving, lol

Looks like a writing surface for pads, delivery slips ect. Alternatively could be a beer belly rest for Bubbas passenger.

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
That's neat but I don't think it's an OEM supplied accessory. There's nothing that I can find in the accessory or assembly manuals. Maybe something from an early JC Whitney catalog?

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
I'd almost bet money that was a JC Whitney catalog item, possibly Sears catalog or maybe Western Auto. I wonder if it has a name or number stamped in the back. Hang onto that, a lot of guys doing restorations might want to have it.

i'd almost bet that it is a universal tray and has 2 thumb screws to tighten down on top of the bracket still very cool :D |
Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
Wow. Western auto. Have not heard that name for a long time. Used to get my BBs there as a kid. They carried everything.

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
I got my first new bicycle there when I was eleven years old, a Western Flyer. W.A. was the "go to" place when I was a kid.

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
By the time Western Auto got to New England was just another chain parts store.

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
Western Auto, Still Remember the smell of new tires and bought my first .22 rifle there, a "Revelation" Branded Mossberg I also remember some auto accessories but none like the "mobile desk" in question. Now JC whitney may be a logical source,

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
Very cool! I'm thinking a writing desk as it looks like it would swing out perpendicular to the dash and could be used for taking notes for deliveries and such? Will it swing into the space under the radio spot?
|
Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
that swing out try is v v cool ---i agree with all the above ---prolly a note board for deliveries-----still v cool

Re: 1955 chevy truck 2nd series dash question
What is the knob on the ashtray for? And are there knobs in the radio knob deletes too?

not the ash tray. This is the Knob you would get for the "Standard Heater" Deluxe heater uses a Chrome Insert there with slide controls. Those are the standard issue Radio Delete Knobs and plate. looks to be a plastic Delete Knob in the center were the Cigarette lighter would go also? Allen |
