Brandon's 64 Chevy C20
5 Attachment(s)
About 6 months ago my youngest brother gave our 14 year old nephew ,Brandon, a 1963 1/2 ton LWB. I helped him with it a little but after talking with his dad it was decided to start looking for a truck that would be less work and money for him to get on the road. So I posted an online ad and found a 1964 C20 about 130 miles away. After talking to the seller we decided to drive up and look at it. Long story short we brought it home for him last Saturday, and he spent a few hours on Sunday cleaning rodent droppings out of the cab and getting it running off of a gas can. I think he done pretty good for $650.00.

Looks like a decent truck for $650. Hopefully it has 4.10 gears and not the 4.57's.

We moved Brandon's 64 into the shop this weekend to get started on it. Here he is removing the intake/exhaust manifolds to replace the broken exhaust stud. I showed him how to drill out the center of the stud and use a torch to blow the rest of it out. We also put a kit in the carburetor. It runs a lot better. We plan on starting to rebuild the brake system next weekend. Then after the brakes are up we will get it to the carwash and wash it.

Looks like a great start.
What'd ya do with the '63? |
Re: Brandon's 64 Chevy C20
The 63 is still sitting out at dads place. I'm not sure what my little brother is going to do with it. It would be neat truck to build but it will need the lower cab rust repaired.

Re: Brandon's 64 Chevy C20
That looks like a pretty solid machine, especially for the money. I'm glad to see a young guy taking interest. It should make him a good truck. Aside from the not so highway-friendly rear end gearing, I love my '66 C20, and it's basically indestructible.

Re: Brandon's 64 Chevy C20
My nephew lost interest in his truck and I ended up with it last summer. I have been working on it instead of my GMC. So far I have replaced the rear axle with a 14 bolt from a 78 C20 donor truck and converted to power steering and disc brakes also from the 78. I rebuilt a 350 and purchased a 1998 nv4500 to put behind it. I will be running a hydraulic clutch and have already purchased CaptFab's conversion kit. The 14 bolt has 4.10 gears so it should work pretty good with the 5 speed. I spent a good portion of today repairing rust in the drivers side inner rocker and bottom of the door pillar. Hopefully I get and evening or two this week to start fitting the rocker panel. Setting it in place it looks like it will take some massaging for a decent fit. I will try to post some photos later in the week.
