Help Radio Identification
4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I just pulled this radio out of a 66 C20 that was mostly all original. I'm trying to determine if this in fact true to the year and truck or was it a replacement long ago?
I've searched many pictures and it seems like the radio's I find for the 1966 had different knobs. These knobs match the original A/C knobs that came in some of the 64-66 trucks, but never seen them on the truck radios. I have seen them on early Corvettes, but hopefully someone can help me out. Any feedback would be appreciated. |
Re: Help Radio Identification
Yes, with the exception of the knobs, that does appear to be a correct radio for a 66 Chevy truck. The manual tune AM radio for that application would be model # 986771. And although the sticker isn't completely intact, it does look like the numbers could be a match.
The outer (volume & tuning) knobs on there now are the style that was used on 63 full-size Chevy cars & Corvettes. The correct knobs should be black plastic styled to match the truck's headlight, wiper, and choke knobs. I don't recognize the original application for the inner (tone control) knob/ring that's on the left, but the inner knob/ring on the right looks to be correct for a 64-66 truck. |
Re: Help Radio Identification
Thank you for the feedback and the correct model#. I wonder if the owner swapped the knobs to the corvette car style. Anyway, I appreciate the info.

Re: Help Radio Identification
You're welcome!
Yes, the knobs were most likely swapped by a previous owner. The shaft size is the same on most of the 60's, 70's, and early 80's GM/Delco radios so knobs can easily be swapped around. |
Re: Help Radio Identification
I had those same knobs on a radio that I put in my 65 Chevy II. The radio and knobs were from a 63 Corvair.
