HEI dist question
1970 C10 350, auto 3970010 engine casting
Tonight I'm putting in new edelbrock manifold, carb, and HEI dist. question is: the HEI dist is bigger in diameter then the stock points dist. The of the firewall curves into the engine bay. Will the HEI go in ok without pulling the engine? seems tight? I'm sure i'll find out but any info from those who have done it appreciated. thanks, Mark |
Re: HEI dist question
Pretty sure the engine in a K-series sits closer to the firewall than a C-series. That said, I had room to swap my distributor for an HEI in my K20. Very close though, and I had to remove the cap in order to install the HEI. No need to pull the engine -- you'll be fine.

Re: HEI dist question
You should be installing with the cap off anyways.

I am able to get the HEI in and out with the stock intake manifold without trouble. I have the same setup otherwise in a '72, 350 with TH350 transmission. All stock other than the HEI.

Re: HEI dist question
Same here. It's a tight fit, but it will go in with the cap off.

Wonderful. Thank you all. This is such a great forum!

Re: HEI dist question
You're going to have to if you want to know where the rotor sits
