Alignment Shim Question
 

OK, 73-87 think tank....is there a set number of a-arm shims that are the "starting point" for a final alignment. My rebuild is at the rolling chassis stage and I would like to "get it close" before I start hanging more stuff.

When I put my whole suspension back together, I split all my shims equally all around (I didn't keep track of where they came from, plus I had put in all poly bushings, new lower ball joints, and moved the lower arms 3/4" forward).

Turned out actually just fine for Caster and Camber. Eye-balled toe was out.

When I disassembled my untouched front end on my '79 I had 4 original shims (per stud) on each side which was about 1/2" worth. I seem to remember reading that number in the shop manual as well, but I could be wrong.

After replacing the entire front end including control arm bushings they didn't touch the passenger side shims, but the drivers side was out a bit. Kind of bugs me because now I wonder if its just sagged original springs on the drivers side, or JUST now I realize I probably only had fuel in the drivers side tank. Sigh

I have all new bushings in mine and it has been lowered. I know I will have to have professionals do a good alignment when the truck is done.

I was guessing that there was a factory "starting point" that I could rough in but cannot find a reference to it anywhere:):) Maybe oldpurple's 4,4,4,4 will be a good start.
