Replacing the ignition on a -71 C20?

Need help. Can't seem to figure out how to remove the ignition on my 1971 C20 Stepside truck.

It started getting stuck in the middle spot and wouldn't turn off. Managed to wiggle it there a few times, then...drained battery.

There is a small little hole which I'm guessing has a pop-out function, but nothing happens and it won't unscrew. Now the key won't turn at all and I'm worried that it has to be in a specific position for the paperclip trick in the little whole will work.

Does anyone know? I'm hoping I won't have to have a mechanic to take the whole system apart :( :waah:
