67 Stepside Build

Adding my build to the list. Bought a 67 Stepside in October with a trashed 350 (see pics below) and a Muncie M20. Pulled out the motor and bought a 6.0L LQ from a 2002 with 317 heads. Not that into the flame job, but I can live with it for now. Here are the details on what I am thinking for the rest of this build:

Looking for some advice from someone out there that has done a LS/T56 conversion in a 67, or similar, pickup with a stock crossmember as shown above. Trying to get a definite answer on whether or not the T56 bellhousing will clear the stock crossmember. I already did a test fit with the engine and bellhousing only and the bellhousing clears the crossmember by maybe an inch (see crummy photo below). However, I am not sure how much the T56 will have to be angled to fit and I am worried the crossmember might interfere.
Anyone have experience with this? Would be great if I could know for certain if it will clear before I try and install the engine with the T56. Oh, I am using the CPP engine stands and LX Innovations motor mount adapters that allow me to move the engine forward/backward. Currently I have them set to put the engine as far back as possible (see photo below). Thanks!!! |

Well, this build has been sitting since the first post nearly a year ago. Got distracted with upgrades to my 63 Chevy II Wagon but now getting back to this! Updating my build list based on the components I have actually purchased and have started to install so this can be well documented....pending it all actually works out well!

So the truck is on the road now. LQ/T56 conversion done. Hyd clutch. 4/6 drop. New wheels and tires. Power disc brakes in front. Cleaner engine bay. It was a busy winter and spring. Made some progress but still need to get rid of the flames...although sometimes I feel like they are growing on me. Body work might be next. Some pics of the progress.

I really like the rallye wheel look. I am going to change mind to 16 or 17 " rallyes.
