Short bed conversion question
 

So I'm basically all in for the conversion. Brothers trucks has 15 percent off until Jan 31 so I ordered the conversion template and short bed sides.
Question is:
I know these re pop panels aren't near as good as original but do they hold up ok? I live in Cleveland but will only drive it in summer.
Thanks for any info tips or advice regarding this venture.
Selling my 8' fleetsides now and they are really nice. Debating on keeping them but not sure why. I would never use them again.

We recently bought front fenders from AMD. They are fantastic quality. We are also looking at buying a complete bed from them as well. Hope this helps some.

There is a recent thread regarding the repopped short bedsides and the consensus seem to be they are actually pretty decent now.

I bought a pair of short fleet sides repop and am very pleased with the quality of the stamping and the metal, very solid sides and fit well to. You can see them in my 68 project build if you like.

And we need pics of this project you are building ;) :chevy:

you got it. I waited 8 years to find the right truck. so excited. it's already agreed that my 7 year old in the one pic will be taking it to his prom.
it's basically all original and extremely solid (California truck).
having a blast restoring it. Hugger orange and white, cutting to a short bed and hope to have it on the road by this May.

restoring the grill I can say the "hair and grease" drain opener stripped the anodized coating off great. Wicked stuff thought.. use goggles and gloves!

I was out in southern California last fall for the first time, unbelievable what they have out there for old iron.

In terms of the new bedsides, if you're building a nit pick 100 point show truck, they just don't 100% look right. If you're building a nice restored truck to cruise around in, 99% of the people that will see it will have no idea they're repops. The metal on them is comparable to factory, maybe a tick thinner. The best thing about them is they're e-coated inside and out, whereas the factory sides develop rust inside them and above the wheel wells.

Overall, you'll be happy with them, but I'm a stickler for GM stuff so I've been trying to repair a rusty OEM set.

I bought a shortbed kit made by dynacorn and Im happy with it. Nice project there, great job on the grill.
