Found a tilt column locally and am wondering if it will work on my 68?

It looks like a Van tilt. I'm pretty sure they have to be modified to fit our trucks.

That is a Van tilt. it will work but you will have to shorten the intermediate shaft and move the NSS down. You will also have to get an adapter for the wiring.

Here is a thread on what I did with the shaft. There is a link to another thread in one of the posts.

Re: Tilt column question

Not meaning to hijack, but how does one shorten the intermediate shaft?
I ask because I can get my hands on a van tilt, for a future truck, but don't want to get into something that I can't handle.
Is it a simple matter of cutting the shaft down, or is it more involved?

Did you look at the link I posted? There is a link in that thread that also shows how to remove the steering column.

Re: Tilt column question

Thanks for the response, can you replace the intermediate shaft with just a double d shaft and just a rag joint?

I know there have been some guys that used the DD stuff but I never followed it because I didn't want to do that..... If you type double d into the Google search box at the top of this page, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com" and click on the Google button you may find some threads on it...
