broken springs in bench seat

As far as I know, this bench seat is original to my 78 GMC. Some of these springs are broken and I'm having a heck of a time finding replacements. I'd appreciate any help finding a source. Thanks!

I checked LMC and didn't see them. Haven't tried any local shops. Figured online would be easy and I wouldn't have to find a local shop during business hours when I'm usually at work.

The picture doesn't show the actual spring, but this is what your looking for. I just bought a bunch of them. I use them when restoring bench seats.

Thanks, this helps a bunch TKCR. Also, if their description of being for 81-87 is correct it means my seat is not original.

Alot of time these trucks stores don't have their parts listed right, so don't always assume they do. I've run crossed that several times.

From the picture you posted of your frame, that's original. Post more pics of your seat, I can tell you if it's original or not.

These are just a few photos I have of the seat torn down. The 1st two, are of the bottom frame, which is just like yours. The last photo, is of the top portion, well part of if. It has the foam that is formed around the frame. I have a few of the top portion of the seat (what I would call the seat back), the foam goes over the top and down the front. But the back portion doesn't have foam, just on the front section. And then some that the foam covers the whole seat back, like the pic I posted.

I don't have access to my photos at the moment, but it actually does look like my seat is likely an 81-87 model. Still original GM, but not for my year. If you look at classicindustries.com, they sell seat and back foam for the 73-80 but only the seat for 81-87 which makes sense if the back foam is molded onto the frame.

Unfortunately, I already bought foam and upholstery for a 73-80 bench before I pulled off the old upholstery, both of which have different listings for 73-80 versus 81-87. I think it will be easier for me to try to find a 73-80 bench to rebuild than to try to exchange those bulky items for 81-87 equivalents.

Yeah the 73-80 seats are just a little different. And the tracks will tell you what seat you have too. I have restored several seats, all 81-87. The tracks bolt up to only the frame for the year. So if your tracks look like the photo I posted, then it would be a 81-87.

Re: broken springs in bench seat

All floors are the same so all seat tracks will bolt up to any 73-87 regular cab truck. There are 2 different 73-80 tracks. The early 73-76 seats have mounts that are about 12" apart front to back. Then the 77-80 tracks and the 81-87 tracks.

if you do a search for another seat, try using this site:

http://www.car-part.com/index.htm

Search for 77-80 trucks.

Re: broken springs in bench seat

I actually already found one of your earlier postings with that site and checked it out. 2 benches listed for all of Texas for 73-80. Appreciate all of your help on this.
