I have put a Flat Out C4 kit in the front of my 57 and fabbing my own mounts to put the C4 suspension in the rear. While mocking things up I came across a couple of things I have questions about that those experienced with this setup might be able to answer.

In the front the stock Corvette rack and pinion has fluid lines the go straight up towards the motor and if left as is the motor must be mounted a little higher to clear these lines. Flat Out sells a rack and pinion with these lines relocated solving that problem but creating another in cost, at $425 plus shipping both ways (core charge) we're almost $700. What would be the drawback of just using a T-bird rack and pinion ($150 local) and saving a bunch of money?

In the rear making my own mounts copying Flat Out's design I see 2 problem that appear in mock up. What are they using for bump stops (limit travel), I hope not using the shock as a travel limiter. And it appear that the toe bars will hit the frame before full compression travel so what are they doing to solve this, are you having to notch the frame?

After reading all the build threads here I guess I need to get to work and start one of my own, but first I need to find a better hosting service as Photobucket is just too much of a pain in the ass to use, Any suggestions there?

i have the flatout suspension front and rear in my 55.2 when i bought my donor 96 vette i checked on the cost of a rebuilt rack but no one had any available, so my local auto supply sent mine off for rebuild, about 175. then i clocked the lines as have others on this board, having just been rebuilt made it turn very easy.

Ridetech told me the internal bump stop in their shocks is adequate, and no need for a bump stop.

Sounds like a cool project.

Got a very slow build going on here in mid state Ga. with a 57tf and have seen this info before but forgot the details so thanks for the update.

depending on how low you run your chassis you'll have to notch for the drive axles and the tie-rods.

I flipped the tie rods on my truck by drilling the taper out of the steering arms, buying appropriate length aluminum rods and Heim ends from Speedway Motors and making a little steel inner tie rod mount that bolts on in place of the old one. No big deal.

Check out canadian hotrods tf frame. They run stock c4. Maybe get some ideas.

tmoble - not planning on running it that low, but it does appear that the tie rods will hit in the travel I have planned. The way you did it sound like the best plan, did you make the inner mount or buy it? Any pictures to give me ideas on how to do this?

dsraven - I had never heard of Canadian HotRods before but woDonw they make some nice frames! Wish I had the money to throw at one of them :)
