1966 c10 when gauge cluster help.

When I plug in the cluster (was unplugged when I got it) the volt gauge stays pinned and fuel gauge works all the time. Even with the key off. I can only imagine that's why they had it unplugged. Everything works.... charges... fuel gauge... temp.... just when it's plugged in it stays pinned on charge.... any ideas what could be doing that? Something giving the cluster power all the time? The wiring is all original and does not look very molested. Thanks. Jesse

The amp gauges have a habit of burning up. It could be smoked. The fuel gauge gets power when the key is on so something is back feeding it. With more than 50 years of PO's not many suggestions on where to start except to clean up everything you can that looks like it was added.

This just in... when I start the truck the gauge goes down a little but the truck does not shut off. Until you unplug the cluster..... I just unplugged the volts gauge and everything works with the key and shuts off with the key.

A voltmeter is wired differently than an ammeter so make sure of which gauge you actually have so you know which way to wire it.

They had amp meters in them so has someone added a volt meter?
