Fron Wheel bearings??

Had to replace the front brake drums and did the grinder and punch thing to seperate the hub from the old drums. I took a punch and knocked out the old back bearings and grease seals. My question when I put the new bearing in and tapped in place and installed the grease seal there is just a slight amount of play between the the bearing and grease seal. You can actual wiggle the bearing between the race and the grease seal. When I mount the hub to the front axel on the hub and just slightly tighten the nut that holds it on there is no play or slop. Does all this sound right or should the bearing be pressed in. The 1963 C10 shopmanual kind of indicates it just lays in and the install the grease seal. Hope this make sense and thanks for any help....

You need to tighten the nut while turning the hub until it gets "tight" then back it off to line up the the cotter pin. I am sure there is a torque number but I just use feel developed over the last 40+ years. The bearing just just drop in the race but the race does have to be fully seated. When you pack the bearing there is a good bit of grease in it and pulling the nut down pushes the extra out as you turn it ensuring you don't leave it loose.

you can snug it with a tool, if you choose, then back off. re-tighten with your fingers. if the hole lines up you are good if not back off till it lines up. there was a gm campaign about this years back

if you are anal enough you would measure the end play "0" to 3 thou
