350 crate engine intake and carb possible for $3,000?

I gave my daughter my 69 C10 a year of so back and she wants to put a new engine in it. It's the truck in my profile pic. The engine in it now is the original 307 with a tiny little Rochester 2 barrel that's worn out. The engine runs but it's very tired. She wants more power and reliability.
She's looking for a 350, intake and four barrel carb. The truck has a granny 4 speed, it's lowered 4/3". Has anyone seen a deal on a 350 crate with intake and carb for around $2500/$3000? We will be using the original ram horn exhaust manifolds and adding a dual exhaust to replace the stock single.
Thanks for any suggestions!

You'd have to add an intake and carb, but that's easy. This engine seems to be the hot ticket of late:

https://smile.amazon.com/Genuine-GM-...0+crate+engine

Add an Edelbrock 7201 (Amazon suggests it at checkout) and a good carb and you're done.

I might be tempted to find the 250hp version of this rather than the 290 - probably more torque would be better than more HP in our trucks.

Re: 350 crate engine intake and carb possible for $3,000?

If you plan on using all but the intake and carb from the 307, get the 195hp GM crate for $1600. Around $200 for a performer intake with gaskets and intake bolts. $340 or so for a 1406 Edelbrock. This makes a really nice setup for around $2150. I've personally had this setup in a couple different vehicles over the years, and currently in my CJ7. To me, this engine has plenty of power for normal driving. But that's just my.02

g.m. vortec 350 crate 2060. jegs
intake 230 jegs
one piece rear seal flexplate 60.00 local parts store.
carb 250.00
small electric fuel pump 100.00 tops..
30.00 for the melonized distributor gear to put on your distributor
new water pump 40.00

225 hp roller cammed 350 that doesn't need special oil.. doesn't need the 20 minute hail mary break in.., and doesn't leak oil .
Better heads, and better power under the curve (under the power peak)
better fuel economy.. than the basic 350. with flat tappet cam and 76 cc heads and 8.0 compression (listed as 8.4 but real world comes in at closer to 8.0) vortec is 9.4

I'm thinking of buying a new engine also. Will the factory exhaust manifolds work with the vortec engine?

I would do this
http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Perf...30283/10002/-1
plus , intake manifold , 600 edelbrock carb , and you will need to get an electric fuel pump , much better engine that the "henchos"

Surprisingly, cheaper on Amazon. I'm sure it's fulfilled by a GM dealer anyway, but it's free shipping too. Same part number:

Check Karl performance. They have complete kits, nice rebates. I got complete 290 hp crate fuel pump starter, intake, carb. 3200 no core. You do have to assemble from intake on. Love mine!

Nope, there doesn't seem to be a core charge or anything on Amazon. I added it to my cart and went all the way to the last step and the total is still $1,999.99

Not bad..
mine was 1919.87 at jegs.. but that was in late 2015..

the part# ending in a 3 = 4 bolt mains..
ending in a 2 is 2 bolt.

Then you have to buy a balancer as it doesn't come with one.
smog heads.. 76cc chambers..
listed at 8.5 to 1 but they most times cc out to 8.0 to 8.1 to1
flat tappet cam..
1320+balancer (150.oo) water pump 80.oo
Both are on the vortec..
basic 185hp 350 ..

or 350 more and get the vortec..

Depends on what you need.

James the III is spot on, the only thing he didn't calculate was the beer money!

For a little more money, the vortec is a slam dunk in my book.

I couldn't agree more. Better heads, one piece rear main, and roller cam make for a more economical, more dependable engine with more useable power, especially for a truck.

Re: 350 crate engine intake and carb possible for $3,000?

You can't beat the GM Vortec Crate engine. I got the 12530283 with 4 bolt mains. It also has hardened valve seats inserts and sodium filled valves which are designed to run cooler. It does come with a balancer, valve covers, and oil pan but not the water pump. One thing some people over look is you need a melonized timing gear not a melonite coated gear.
The Summit Stage 1 intake is perfect for these motors in a 4000 truck. Also don't listen to those who say you should change the factory cam. The factory cam was designed to have low end torque to give a heavy pick-up the power it needs to get going and to give it pulling power for heavy loads. With a good four barrel and headers you should have 300 net hp easily. That would be like dropping a 350 with 350 hp (gross hp)in your truck back in the day when these trucks were made.
If I didn't want headers I would get some 2 1/2 inch ram horns. I never liked headers myself but I already had a set for another hot motor I had in my truck so I used them, now I like them. Just use good gaskets and retighten the bolts after the first run and motor cools. I actually tightened mine while the motor was still hot and rechecked them after it cooled.
These motors are made in Mexico but don't let that bother you, they are GM motors.
