1966 Original Steering Column - Automatic
Will a 2 spd powerglide column be compatible if swapping to a TH400??
Assuming these are all column shift. Thanks |

Yes you just won't be able to get to low.

Re: 1966 Original Steering Column - Automatic
So was there a 3 speed column in 66?

3 Attachment(s)
So i understand the C20 had the auto 3 speed.
Any idea if this would work or is this for manual column? I have an erector set apparently. |
Re: 1966 Original Steering Column - Automatic
The 3 speed was a hydrostatic 3 speed similar to a th400 but iirc not the same, gear selector a lot different.

Re: 1966 Original Steering Column - Automatic
The TH400 was available in the '65 & '66 C20's and C30's. My '66 Suburban still has the original Powerglide column and I am able to shift into 1st gear on my TH400 with no problem. Of course I'm sure the column is worn a bit which I imagine helps the situation some.

I'm not worried if it won't shift into 1st. I only need Drive! |
Re: 1966 Original Steering Column - Automatic
Locar is what I used

Re: 1966 Original Steering Column - Automatic
I made my own simple linkage. Now you can buy the same style from I believe Lokar and others as well. It is just a bracket on the trans with an adjustable rod up to the lever on the column. I did not use the typical factory bellcrank with the bracket on the frame
