LMC hood latch assembly with inside pull

Has anyone used one of these?

If so, thoughts?

Looks like a nice piece. However, I wonder if that paddle style handle is made of plastic or metal. Would really suck to have that break off.

I haven't used one Rob but from the product description I don't see the advantage here. It says pull the cable then squeeze the hood latch to open the hood. If the hand lever is still on the latch then it could still be opened from outside right? And the hand lever is still clearly shown in the product pics.

I have one in the truck and it works fine, the handle is plastic

This looks pretty cool . I wonder if it has the safety like newer rigs .
Funny story , I was cruising down the interstate when I was 20yrs old in my 69 k20 doing about 75 mph and the hood popped open , "yeah scary" shattered the windshield and wrapped the hood over the cab . Needless to say from then on out I used a bungi cord as a safety mechanism. Good thing I was on a straight away .

I think the handle is just for the safety latch.

Might also be a good add-on for someone using a billet style grill. That way you wouldn't need to use that extension rod piece to pop your hood. I like the idea.

If my truck was a Daily Driver and/or kept outside all the time, then I can see the benefits. But, since I don't do either, I don't see the use.
Saw this in the latest Catalog.

That's exactly why I bought it. I'm running the billet inserts on my 68 and it was annoying getting under the truck just to pop the hood open every time.

I set mine up and it completely pops the hood open

Anyone know if how it works with the hand operated parking brake?

Good Question.. I ordered one for my 67 GMC and was planning to keep original hand brake.
We're not there yet. So I don't know..

Let me get this right. It pops the hood all the way open? Product states that you still have to pull the original hood release. This is just a lock mechanism to keep would be thieves out.

I am pretty sure it works independently.

I would like to get one of these to so my hood couldn't be opened so easily but the little release handle doesn't look great hanging under the dash and my truck is a 68 so someone could reach in through the grill. Maybe with some fab work it can be made into something useful and better integrated into the dash

Can you post pictures of your install?

I think that might depend on the strength of the spring in the hood release latch spring (72 latch). When I pull on mine, it pops the hood all the way open. Maybe I need to work on that?

It does and you can mount it to any location that the cable can reach.

I think it would be pretty difficult to open this setup by reaching through the grille. Not impossible, but not easy and way harder than having a handle hanging out there, :D. Bottom line, if someone wants in bad enough, they'll figure out a way,.

True I guess if they wanted in they could just break the window and open it that way.

With the grill inserts , this thing makes good sense. I do not enjoy getting down on a knee to get my hood open. I figure anything ( including the inserts ) preventing easy entry into the engine bay is worth a look.

Would like to see images of it installed to ensure it isn't just a 'secondary' way to open the hood.

Looks pretty nice but for $100.00 it should be a metal handle at least. I had one like this in my wifes old caddy 94 model it broke twice over a 10 year period. It would only pop the hood part of the way you still had to reach inside the hood to fully open it.:chevy:

Old post from 2017, but instead of making a new one, I'll just ask here....

Anyone have this installed?

Wondering about the durability of it as I read some people had issues with the plastic lever breaking. Don't really want to use a chain, but I will if need be.

Just looking for a little added security when out and about. Truck is garaged at home.

I don't have time to look right now but there is a thread on here somewhere on how to make one yourself with a long choke cable.

Here is one with a quick search:

I had one and the metal for the latch kept bending under use, then wouldn't work. I went back to a stock hood release
