I hate to do this, but... how much is my truck worth?
Hey all, I have a 1986 Chevy C-10, and I was wondering if you all could tell me what I might be able to sell it for. I simply can't afford 10 mpg, not without a job.
Specs- 164,000 miles, stock 305, K&N, rebuilt TH700R4 installed in 2000 to replace TH350, replaced rear axle with 3.73 peg leg, new brakes, radiator, waterpump, basically almost everything but engine replaced, dual exhaust with Flowmasters, repaint in 2000, minimal rust-repaired with paintjob, new 1998 Chevy alloys, cross-bed toolbox, I can think of more if you need more information. The bad stuff-168,000 mile 305, slight body damage-no paint removed but a small dent from stupid friend, some slight chips from not-too-great paintjob combined with gravel roads, needs tires badly. Again, any information you need I can provide. I hate to even think of selling this, but I am a flat broke college student with no job. Therefore, I can't pay for 10 mpg when home is 20 miles from everywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Oh yeah, a pic http://community.webshots.com/photo/...90004313GNyjiv |

first off let me say its a gorgeous truck, and it looks like there was alot of effort and thought that went into this vehicle to get it no the shape it looks like now; you can see its been tastefully done and carefully done.
Unfortunately i dont see this fetching alot of $$$ compared to what ya have in it. My truck which needs paint and some body work with a stripped down cab ( custom deluxe with power steering and auto trans as factor options and an aftermarket cassette radio ( jensen)) is worth about $1400 give or take and i think its kinda on the high side myself. Im gonna say maybe $16-1800 for yours and again that may be high end. Bear in mind Im in the NYC area and there isnt as big a call for a pickup out here as say in the midwest or the farm areas etc. can only go by what i know in my area I have a 1999 ranger with a 4 banger automatic 2wd full power 76K miles etc and the last time i had it appraised they offered me $2500 for it as a trade towards a new truck again in my area in 1999 i woulda paid $16,900 for it sticker and i added accessories to it like a cap, racks, pinstriping and bedliner, just to give ya an idea about prices here |
Up here the news is a bit more bright, a truck like that would go for 5 - 6 thousand :)

Thanks N2TRUX. $1800? This saddens me. Hopefully others will have some better info for me. Oh yeah, some stuff I mighta left out-it's a Custom Deluxe cab, with the plastic floor and no headliner and all, but it's in great condition. There has been an aftermarket stereo system installed, a Pioneer Premier CD deck with a component system, 5x7's in the cab corners, tweeters on the kick panels, and what I believe are the stock 3.5's in the dash, but I'm not too sure on that one. Hopefully this raises the price of my truck. Thanks!

mine is a custom deluxe too no air condition or anything another reason it dont fetch much $$$
|
Around her about $1800- $2200 tops!!
|
Cmon, someone please come to me with some good news!!!
|
how much are you looking to get out of it?
have you considered parting it out? 305 168,000 miles is basically the only thing wrong
|
Yep, 305s don't draw much interested especially in my area. I agree with Phantom Dually on his estimate of the price. I sold my '75 Custom Deluxe, very rusty, no AC, un-modified 350 for $1000 and your truck is nicer than that one. I wouldn't pay more than $1800 max for it, but I probably woudn't buy it anyway because of the 305. Sorry, it's not what you want to hear but I'm sure you want us to be honest. :)

I say wou could get $3K for it. I paid $2300 for mine with the V-6 in it 6 years ago. I think you just need to find the right buyer. If I was you I would list it for $4000 OBO and go from there.

have you checked the blue book value?

The blue book value is awful, lemme tell you that much. It seems that the Kelley Blue Book doesn't care about performance mods or an addition of an overdrive transmission, which would guarantee a greater worth for a vehicle. 3500 sounds like a good starting point, at least right now. Thanks!

Isn't there somewhere you could put it for safe keeping. It's a nice looking truck but they just aren't worth much. I only paid 3000 for my K10 Silverado and I'm is South Dakota. There isn't much demand for them here. Last february I bought and 85 with the 4.3 for $150 it was rusty but still a good running truck and it started every day.

I am puttin this back at the top, for hope that someone will give me news that I want to hear. Thank you for all responses.

I would market heavily in Canada because without A/C it's not worth having in Texas. It's worth more to keep it and just struggle through the best you can. It will always be worth having...
|
It was an original Florida truck, so it had A/C. I say "had" because there is a mysterious problem with it, the compressor doesnt seem to turn on when I turn the air on. The interior is in amazing shape, no rips or tears or anything. The dash cover isn't the best, but it looks really good. I don't think it will be possible for me to keep the truck while I am in school, and I can't get anything else reliable enough to drive unless I sell the truck. So I am in a conundrum. Well, thanks for all responses, and hopefully someone here will tell me that my truck is some special model or something, and it is worth a lot. Thanks!
