Picked up my new project.

After years of not having a 67-72 truck I picked up one this weekend. It's a bone stock 68 SWB. 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree. I plan on leaving the outside just the way it is, bag it, big steel wheels and cruise it. Eventually it'll have an LS motor, but for now, just cruising it.

I think you might need a radiator and maybe headlights to cruz it! :D

Nice Find!

Very nice find. That's a popular recipe these days but for good reason. Looking forward to seeing some progress on this one.

And,,as an added bonus, the Pate swap meet is next month. I am sure you can find the parts you need there,,, unless you were thinking about maybe selling it,,, hint hint....

Well... less than 24 hours old and my plan has already taken a left turn... haha.. Picked up a 5.3 and 4l60e tonight....... Dang you Facebook for sale pages....

So... looks like the 6 is coming out and the LS is going in.

Anybody know if I will need a new driveshaft? I am assuming that I will need to aquire some motor mount frame towers??

OMG that patina is perfect, do you have the rest of the sheet metal for it? a splash of clear coat would be all I'd do to that amazing paint!

So jealous, up here in Canada, we never see trucks like that, the "rust" we get up here is the terrible rot out your soul kind of rust.

Some day I'm going to find the time to search the southern States for a find just like this for an LS swap.

I do have all the panels, hood, grille and everything for it. I don't know if I'm going to clear the patina... not a huge fan of how that looks... I'm probably just gonna buff it a bit to get the oxidation off the paint and leave it...

#0000 steel wool and WD-40 will make it look better than you might think. Then just wax it to keep the rust from coming back. I like it! Thinking about an LS when my 402 wears out the second time (rebuilt at 125k miles, now has 213k miles on it and getting tired again).

Search CLR on here , that combined with a green scotchbrite , or fine steelwool can work wonders , quickly followed by a good wax ,

Re: Picked up my new project.

Well, pulled the rest of the front sheet metal off today. Pulled the 250 straight 6 and the 3 speed manual. Unbolted the bed and got it ready for some friends to come over and help me take it off. It needs a good power washing and i'll do that this week. I'm trying to decide if I want to paint all the frame and suspension components or leave them they way they are and match the "patina" look. I'll probably end up painting them.... lol

I also took the wiring harness off the of the 5.3 and did a good inspection, i'll clean it up soon and give it a fresh coat of Chevy orange.

Anyone need a 250 and 3 speed?

It is, and there is no easy way, especially with the cab on. I removed one from the '67 C-30 a while back with the cab on so it can be done. I either "X" the rivet heads with a cut off wheel or drill them and finish with a sharp chisel. I found that it is easier to chisel them if the chisel is only sharpened on one side. If you have a good compressor and an air chisel it would make it easier......
