Name this part

Right behind the driver's seat, on the vertical surface before the rear floor, there is a spring mounted with 3 brackets. Any idea what this is for? I saw one on a CST that was in the bone yard, and I looked at mine, but they're gone (holes are there). Just wondering if it's worth picking up?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

I have one too -- never figured out what it's for. I wondered if it had something to do with the seatbelts, but it really looks like it would end up UNDER the carpet.

LT 72 Jimmy 10-19-2003 07:19 PM

alta-aj 11-03-2003 03:25 AM

I'd like to see a pic as well.

I have a complete set of the springs and brackets but before I put them in, I'd like to see how they are supposed to work.

Blue Beard 11-03-2003 09:46 AM

Thanks for the thread, have a CST and didn't know what that was for either..........

Did anyone ever find a picture of jack pieces mounted behind seat? Even a picture of the brackets installed without jack handle could help. I couldn't find picture on older threads.

LT 72 Jimmy 01-10-2004 11:49 AM

The LMC catalog offers a sticker that has jack storage instructions. I can't tell from the picture if it shows under the bed or behind the seat. I'll order one the next time I need some stuff.

Gee_Emm 01-10-2004 01:16 PM

I dont think the sticker in the LMC catalog is for Blazers. I dont think they even used stickers.

k5hart 01-10-2004 07:32 PM

In fact they did use a sticker on the blazers. It is located on the back of the drivers side wheelwell, so you can see it when looking at the spare tire. Here is a picture.

As you can see mine is in bad shape, but I think I can still make out the instructions looking at it close up. Give me until tomorrow guys and I will try to put my jack and accessories in according to how the instructions say. I will take pictures for you.

k5hart 01-10-2004 07:46 PM

I think my pictures are being difficult today. Try 2......

Another point to add that everyone may not know. The jack is actually mounted in the back behind the spare. This is the holder for it.

The jack handle and the tire iron go behind the back seat. At least this is the best I can tell from the sticker. I will try to get this done tomorrow. Hope this helps.

Copy and paste the link for the red x guys. Wow this is like the holy grail. We are finally going to see a jack in place. I have been trying to find this info for months. I even went to the point of emailing people on ebay that were selling Blazers and Jimmys to see if their jacks were in place. Vendors, what are the chances of getting that decal reproduced? I guess the trick would be to find one intact.

That is the first time I have ever seen that decal and probably the first time for everyone on this board since nobody knows how to place the jack.

When I purchased my 72 blazer it had the jack, crank, and wrench all mounted behind the drivers seat. It looked like it all belonged there. The people I bought the truck off of never removed or modified anything so I think that was the way my particular truck came from the factory. There was no mounting lug behind the spare tire carrier on mine, and the seat and spare tire carrier were never removed, judging from the looks of the truck. Unfortunately, I have completely gutted the interior so I can't show any pics.

pound41 01-11-2004 12:31 AM

ditto! mine came from the original owner and the first thing I did 22yrs ago was yank that neatly tuck jack and its parts from behind the drivers seat. what a dumba$$ Have all the parts just not exactly sure how they went

k5hart 01-11-2004 01:50 AM

UGGGHH! Sorry for the red x's guys. Lets try again.

Not to start an argument skid, but my blazer is in the same category. Very original and not much modified. Mine is a CST 2-wheel drive, if that might make a difference. I wouldn't see why, but who knows. Funny how things can be different from truck to truck.

Gee_Emm 01-11-2004 02:34 AM

I wonder if the trucks with exterior carriers would have had the decal.

skid 01-11-2004 04:21 AM

K5hart, I just looked at the bed of my truck and do have the two holes for the jack mount by the spare tire carrier. Mine must have been taken out at some point in time.

Ok everyone are you ready...........heres the jack handle and lug wrench.

I installed mine today as best I could from the sticker. It did not seem as difficult as I thought it would be. I am a little questionable on the attachment on towards the middle because this was a part of my sticker that was damaged. I had to guess at it, really it seems like the only way. Everything is held nice a snug, so we'll see if it stays there during normal driving.

http://img.ranchoweb.com/images/k5ha...eposition2.jpg

Take a look and tell me what you think. Next post the jack......

k5hart 01-11-2004 08:19 PM

Now the jack........

Mine is attached in the back. After looking really hard at the sticker (poor thing is in bad shape) I noticed that it said trucks with the optional back seat have the jack mounted in the back. Back seat delete trucks mount up front right above the handle location. This answers why some people have the mount in the back and some do not. Cool......mystery solved. This again was super simple, but holds wonderful. Take a look.

Give me about an hour and I will have a URL that you can go to see about 16 more pics of the whole install.
