Navigation System Install Suggestions

Hello,

The prior owner of my 64 C-10 has cut the dash to install an Alpine DIN radio. An oversized aluminum sheet has been used to cover any gaps between the radio and the cut dash. I cannot stand the aluminum. It looks tacky and I want to get rid of it.

I am debating replacing the Alpine unit with a Navigation system (i.e., cut the opening even more); or finding a nice black cover that is not oversized that looks neat.

I do not have a problem losing the ash tray since I do not smoke. I am assuming it would have to go since I would think at least a 4 inch high opening would be needed.

If I go the Navigation system route, what is the best tool to use to make the cuts? Would you have enough control using a cutting wheel to make neat cuts?

Eddie

Air tool with a small cutoff disc, or Dremel with a disc would give you the best control. Or a plasma cutter if you have surgeon hands :)

I also would drill the corners, another option is an air saw...you got to control them tho

Yeah that's a good idea. If you have a hard time controlling the tool you might drill more often too, and then just connect the dots. Or rather than cutting the lines fully, just cut the width of the tool in spots, and slowly overlap, kind of like tac welding something you don't want to warp.

Okay Gents; thank you much.

I do have a Dremel tool. So it sounds like it would be a good time to put it to use.
