63-66 V8 fan shroud
I recently stumbled onto a '65 or '66 Suburban while scrounging for parts.
It is a factory V8 truck. It still has the original plastic radiator fan shroud, and it is in great shape. I was thinking about trying to work the shroud into the deal with the other parts. I don't recall ever seeing one. How rare is it? |
Re: 63-66 V8 fan shroud
They make repro fan shroud for 64-66 chevy trucks. The originals are usually crack, split or broken.

Re: 63-66 V8 fan shroud
The OEM ones usually got thrown away when the radiator or water pump got changed. The shroud helps with the efficiency of cooling of the engine.

Re: 63-66 V8 fan shroud
Did the OEM shroud fasten to the radiator or to the support?
Is the shroud adaptable to aftermarket radiators? I have an OEM shroud from a '63 Impala I was gonna try to use on mine. |
Re: 63-66 V8 fan shroud
It attached to the sheetmetal extensions on the either side of the radiator. I have repoped shroud for a 64 on mine. With a 21" fan, I had to do a little trimming but it does work well.
Is your '63 Impala shroud the one that looks like metal corrugated pipe section? |
Re: 63-66 V8 fan shroud
2 Attachment(s)
OEM V8 radiator shrouds attached to two panels that bolted to the core support.

Re: 63-66 V8 fan shroud
The fan shroud helps in the summer months if you get stuck in traffic or maybe a parade.

Re: 63-66 V8 fan shroud
Aside from helping the fan out at low speed, it does provide a certain element of protection too. You know...from stuff like falling beers or getting the drawstring to one's hoodie wrapped up in the moving blades while bending over the radiator. (Ouch, that'll leave a mark)
