Online tire shopping?
So Ive been searching Craigslist for a decent deal on either 285 75 16's or maybe some 255 85 16's. Haven't quite found what I'm looking for ... yet.
I decided to try some online searching for new just to see what's out there. I'm finding prices all over the place even for the same brand and size tires ( I was looking at some Coopers). Is there one reputable place you guys have used? Ive heard Tire Rack is decent. |
Re: Online tire shopping?
Tire Rack is good. I've used them a few times. Just be sure to get a total price. Include shipping & taxes, and you'll need to pay someone local to mount & balance them.
Nowadays I buy from my local America's Tire. Supports the local economy, and they'll price match anyone. Great service too. |
Re: Online tire shopping?
I've bought lots of tires from Tire Rack. They ship very fast (usually same day) and have reviews and in-house test results on their website. They're good. Recently, I shop around online to find the lowest price (for example, www.simpletire.com). Then I go to the nearest Discount Tire store, tell them what I found and they price-match. Best price, no hassle looking for an installer, good service, etc.

summit summit summit! i like the way they sort on their website, good interface for shopping and comparing. they ship super fast (often next day delivery in my area) and the tires i've bought have been free shipping. looks like they have 45 options of 285/75 and 7 options of 255/85.

Re: Online tire shopping?
I prefer www.discounttiredirect.com to Tire Rack for the tires I've needed for 4wds. I have bought from 4wph when they ran a buy 3 get 4th free. Discount Tire Direct offers free shipping, though, and prices are as good as it gets. I have them on another tab at the moment because I too am ready to pull the plug on a set of 285/75s. What a coinkydink

Re: Online tire shopping?
I bought my last two sets of tires from Tirebuyer.com and found the pricing was excellent and delivery was the next day both times.

Re: Online tire shopping?
tirerack.com
Tire Rack. I've been purchasing tires here for all my cars since Online shopping became popular. Their prices with shipping have consistently saved me about 100 bucks per set of 4 tires. That's after paying shipping for 4 tires and about 100 dollars for mount and balance ( 25 bucks per corner usually ). That 100 bucks usually is the markup on the tires. Shop around with NTB, Discount Tire, Walmart, GoodYear, Firestone, etc for your set of tires that you want ( must not be some in-house brand of tire like Firehawk or something that you can't find Online ). Then go to tirerack.com and price the same set out with shipping and 100 dollars for mount and balance. How much can you save? -klb |
Re: Online tire shopping?
Tires have become a commodity item. Find what you want, go to a local dealer and price compare with the dealer. They will almost always match pricing. The benefit is you have one stop shopping and a person to go to with any issues that arrive.

Re: Online tire shopping?
Tirerack for me!
I've bought two sets of tires and they collected all the taxes and shipped them within a week north of the border too! And at half the price in canuck bucks that any of the local tire stores could quote. |

Find the lowest price you possibly can on the tires you want. Take that to Americas or Discount tire and they will match it, plus they install. Not only that, they have the best customer service of ANY business I have ever dealt with. I've bought tires from them exclusively for years now. |
Re: Online tire shopping?
A short story...
I went tire shopping at our local Firestone store about 15 years ago. As usual, they did not have what I wanted. He went online to Tire Rack and said, "I can have them here tomorrow." He then wanted a little more than I'd have paid going to Tire Rack myself. |
Re: Online tire shopping?
I use Tire rack to check prices against the others. I have bought tires online from Summit and Jegs. Usually when they have some sort of free shipping deal going on. I have a Discount Tire about 40 miles away and have used them before. I have taken printed out price quotes from other places that are lower than what Discount Tire has on their website. They have always honored the lower price quote.

Discount, Tire Rack, Summit, Jegs, Amazon, eBay, Tire Easy........I've bought from many. Never had an issue.
Easy because I mount and balance my own. |
Re: Online tire shopping?
I have gotten good deals through summit on tires.
The last set of bfg at's I got the best deal locally. the local dealer matched online pricing, and I save a few bucks mounting and balancing my own. |

EDIT: Now I see Lock Doc answered already. It's how I was taught . We're Mid-Atlantic here in Maryland...and south of the Mason-Dixon Line. I'm sure now it was Curly who said it like that. Maybe an old cartoon or two also...like Bugs Bunny |
Re: Online tire shopping?
I have always had good luck with Cooper tries and Discounttiredirect. Cooper is one of the last remaining American made and owned tire companies out there.
I was not in a hurry so I took my time shopping. It seemed like if I found the tire I wanted a little cheaper from one place, the shipping would be more than the next place. And vice versa. Also, keep checking with the manufacturer and the seller to see if they have any sales or rebates. I ended up buying my tires before I actually needed them because Discount was offering a $200.00 gift card! |
Re: Online tire shopping?
Bought a pair of 16.5 off Amazon recently. Best deal I could find.

Re: Online tire shopping?
Last night the tires I checked were Simple ($1050), Rack ($980), and Discount ($1015/$885 with rebates). Discount asks if you've seen them cheaper, so I said yes and waiting to hear back. It was too late to call, and I assume they will say they are cheaper with rebates...because they are. The question is if I qualify for both or either ($50 & $80)
EDIT: Answer was yes. Just ordered a set of Goodyear DuraTracs and have both rebates coming. Total cost about $885, be here Wed! |
Re: Online tire shopping?
Thanks for all of the tips! Ive found a few sets via Craigslist but they want the same price as a new set of tires for them.
