How Do You Replace the Upper Heat Stove? Cant get the darn bolt out!

1 Attachment(s)
My upper heat stove, which is a little bracket that deflects heat from the engine up into the metal tube that leads into the tail end of the air cleaner, is toast. The little piece that secures it to the single screw that holds it on has rusted through and now I am at risk of losing the metal tube as I drive down the road.

Has anyone ever successfully extracted the screw (I think it's a screw) and replaced the heat stove? I see no slot on the screw and have tried a pair of Vice Grips with no luck. Im not even sure the thing unscews. It could be a rivet.

Anyone have any successes or failures. Here's a picture of the culprit.

I haven't done what you are doing, but when dealing with any manifold bolts it can be helpful to run the engine for a bit to heat up the manifold. Once it it hot you can hit it with some PB Blaster and it will suck it into the threads.

Thanks... I will give it a try. I am just curious if they are actually bolts!!!

It's a rivet!
Drill a hole in it and tap it for a new screw.

Crap... In addition to the UPPER STOVE, it looks like I dont even have a LOWER STOVE. No wonder my truck revs high until it's very warm. I wish like hell that they were not rivets.

Upon second thought I think they were a spotweld to hold the cover in place.
Like I said, grind it flat and drill a hole.
And where's the rest of the sheet metal stove?

After looking at some photos, I believe that it's gone... but not forgotten. I'll need to find one on ebay.

I just wish someone could confirm or deny that these are attached with rivets, screws, or other. See from the manual below. I dont see any threads!

Heat stove won't help that a lot.
More of a choke adjustment will cure that.
What choke do you have?
A pic will help.
