Chrome drip rail

How rare is the stainless drip rail on these trucks? And are they installed by the dealer or the factory? I just bought a 69 longhorn CST with this on it. It is held on with the stainless rosette rivets but not listed on the Spid thanks

Re: Chrome drip rail
i believe it was a dealer installed item. there seemed to be a few trucks in the central valley area of california that had drip rail moldings. a buddy of mine in modesto found a few sets in wrecking yards in that area years ago. i have never had a truck with them and i have parted over 200 67-72s so i guess they were more area specific.

Re: Chrome drip rail
That's a new on too me. I bet it looks pretty sharp.
Is the long horn a Western born truck? |

I seen on here another truck with the rosette rivets holding on these mouldings. Interesting. Here is a picture of that truck

Re: Chrome drip rail
Careful might be illegal to remove those rivets in your state!
|
Re: Chrome drip rail
Now there's a perfectly legitimate reason to be selling rosette rivets. Hmmm......
This was a GM accessory, so post production. I have never seen one with it shown on the SPID. I guess the kit came to the dealers with the rivets. Just a few years ago I sold the N.O.S. set that I had. Like all the accessories, it had the drawing/instructions sheet. |

Re: Chrome drip rail
How bout a picture from further back so we can see what this looks like.

Re: Chrome drip rail
I was looking in the assembly manual and it shows the drip rail but deleted.

Re: Chrome drip rail
Only a dealer option. Had to have them install it. Dealers hated to put them on. The earlier ones did not have the rivet holding them. The bottom would come lose so they would rivet them on to hold them down. They did not advertise them much so they did not have to install them.

Re: Chrome drip rail
For a while, the drip rail moulding was my "holy grail" for searches in the yards, but more and more I heard what a pain they were, so I quit looking. If I ever found the trim I would grab it, but just like the 3 sets of door edge trim I have, I don't know if I would put it on my truck.

Re: Chrome drip rail
Over the years, this dealer option has been discussed on here. (Search this forum with correct word). But, from what I remember it was a one year dealer option, as mention they were flimsey, would seprate from drip rail easily, just a PIA. So they were discontinued GM.
Years ago, they were AM reproduced and LMC offered them in there catalog. I guess the gave up on them too. |

Re: Chrome drip rail
Personally I think they look much better on a darker color truck.
Looks great on the red one, not so much on the white roof. |
Re: Chrome drip rail
I was looking on my truck drip rail. The sealer that was applied on the back of the rail . varies and the amount of 'exposed' rail therefore varies.
How does the S.S. drip rail mount and 'pinch' onto the truck's steel drip rail. Does the S.S. just clip on the very return edge or how does it work. How much does it need to properly mount on the back side of the truck rail? None of the pictures show the 'back side' of the rail and the Chevy book does not show how it is mounted. Can anyone please post a clear photo of the back of the drip rail showing how the S.S. is mounted. Thanks! |
Re: Chrome drip rail
I can but it will be a few days.

Waited almost a year to get my stainless rail trim from Classic Industries (supply chain issues). Spent an hour putting it on. Went relatively smoothly because I prepped the rail with a Dremel tool. I made sure the rail thickness was uniform and bump free. The hardest part was twisting the rails in two places to lay flat against the rail.

Re: Chrome drip rail
That look good. I love the way that moulding looks. Guess it's been 5 years since I said I would get pictures of the back side. Turns out right now my cab is at metal work along with the mouldings so I can't take any now either
