New cab pads too thick for my '62

1 Attachment(s)
Just finishing some rust repair in the floors of my '62 C10 and am about to replace the cab pads. Ordered a set that's supposed to fit '60-'66, but the ones the Truck Shop in Orange, CA sent appear to be way too thick and shaped differently. I've head nobody is making pads specifically for the '62, so adapting the ones like I might be the only option. Questions:

1) Does anyone make cab pads that are the same size and shape as OEM pads?

2) If not, should I just shave the ones from the Truck Shop down to the proper thickness?

3) Mine are squished enough that it's hard to tell exactly how thick the top and bottom ones should be. Does anyone have specs on these?

4) As far as shaving the new ones down, what's the best way to do this? Cut them? Grind them? Or??

Thanks for any help with this.

What you have looks about right on the new ones. Your old ones started life that size.

You figure over 50 years of weight, vibration and shock and those rubber bits get smashed down a long ways.

Don't cut them down! Be sure you install the bushings and hardware in the correct order, then correctly torque down the assembly.

After looking at that thread, I'm even more inclined to believe the 60-62 cab mount pads are not the same as the 63-66. Not sure if they're square as (as shown in the other thread) but sure do appear to be thinner. And it doesn't look like my '62 was set up for the cone shaped pads. If I were to install the "60-66" kit that I now have, the cab would sit about an inch higher and the body lines would not match the lines on the bed.

The cone-shaped bushing is installed on the underside of the rear cab mount bracket. Is your bracket different than the one pictured?

The original type 60-62 cab mounts are not reproduced. However, the 64-66 cab mount pads work fine, but require the bolts to be about 1 inch longer, so replace the bolts with longer grade 8 or better. DO NOT SHAVE THE PADS.

Thanks for posting that pic. Looks like the mounts on my '62 are actually quite similar to what you're showing. Guess I'll go ahead and try installing the cab pads without modifying them. I'll get some longer bolts, as suggested.

Thanks

My 61's were square and had some sq metal flat spacers about 1/8" thick. I used the later ones and they fit fine after the longer bolts.

Are longer bolts required on all 4 corners?

I agree.
If he replaces them all for also the bed and the core supports, things should line up.
