8 lug slot mags
With 16.5 tires becoming a real pain.
17x8 slot mags with a blank bolt pattern and a large center bore. https://m.summitracing.com/parts/are-vna69780000 |
Re: 8 lug slot mags
thanks for the info...I had to pull all my 16.5 slots off of my trucks because nobody makes tires in 33" except super swamper and they wear out too fast on the road...good for off road use...

Re: 8 lug slot mags
I found some 8 lug mags off a Dodge, test fit one and they worked, $400 got all 4 they had been in his garage 3 years. Also I used my old Ford rim as a spare, same bolt pattern.

Re: 8 lug slot mags
Yeah well I bought a set of 9.75 slots with 35/12.50 BFG A/Ts for $40!! Sounds great, but once I installed them I got maybe 500 miles before one flew apart. I would have gone with a Swamper, and they now make the Vortrac 35" that is road friendly, but way more money than I want to spend. I went to 16 x 8 steel wheels and downsized to 285/75s.
I'm sure these 17s will appear same as 16.5s looking at the truck. Personally, I like the 10" 8-lug slots. 8" just doesn't get it for me on these. Gotta have that "dish". I wish they'd make those |
Re: 8 lug slot mags
On a 2wd 10 inch wheels look wrong up front.
Have a pair of 16.5 x 9.75 slots in my garage, can't see them on anytime soon. |
Re: 8 lug slot mags
Someone is making a 17" diameter 8-lug aluminum slot mag. I think it is American Racing. Can be ordered with or without fake beadlock. They came out with them right after I sold off my set of 16.5x9.75 8-lug slot mags and replaced them with 16" steelies from Wheels Vintiques.

Re: 8 lug slot mags
They always stop making good looking wheels to make more room for dipchit wheels. You haven't noticed? Wheels are like fashion shoes. If you make something people love they will wear the first purchase out and buy more of the same. There would be a market for the used stuff, so scrap yards would be hard up for scrap junk outdated trendwheels that never were cool. At least that's how I figure . Nothing else makes sense, so there ya go!

american racing sawblade... discontinued.. 8 lug slot mag... discontinued... just to name a few of my favorite i have to look high and low to find.. what a shame, nowadays is 18" and bigger, and blacked out. not cool. keep it to 16"/16.5" on a 3/4 ton truck.... same deal with tires, mickey thompson baja belted, my favorite tire.. discontinued. and all for no apparent good reason |
Re: 8 lug slot mags
Alcoa made those Super Singles with the holes and the five spoke star pattern.
And Weld also made the Sidewinder and Outback, both wheels I ran on trucks and everybody loved them. Next time they come out with a good looking wheel I'm willing to use, I'm going to stop people when they open their mouth to compliment them. It seems once the powers that be hear people love a wheel with no reservations, that is when they decide it's time to halt production. Same as 33/12.50-16.5 BFG A/Ts. They insisted on halting production along with the rest of the industry...probably to force us to buy one of the many new useless bigger diameter wheels and rims the world switched to for no good reason other than make wheels and tires cost more with so many sizes and shapes to provide when just a few used to do just fine. Yeah, I know. Run on sentence. That's how rants work. Anyway, the buying public showed so much demand, BFG kept making short runs. They'd get sold right out in no time flat. Make another batch, same thing. On like that till they finally just plain stopped to carry on with their planned obsolescence scheme. Now I'm no hot shot bean counting business man, but in my simple mind it would seem any product that sells out as soon is it's available is not the one you want to stop producing. Then again, there are a lot of bean counters who walk with a limp. Gotta suck shooting yourself in the foot!! |
Re: 8 lug slot mags
I wonder if that fake beadlock ring could be machined off the American Racing AR969 slot mag while still leaving enough meat on the rim??? Or, if the fake beadlock ring is removable (either by unscrewing the bolts or drilling them out), if I could just fill in the bolt holes with aluminum puddle welds, grind flush, and polish??? I need to look into this.....

Re: 8 lug slot mags
I wondered that about 16.5s made into 16s, but never looked into it. nly takes 1/4" of meat off to do it.

Re: 8 lug slot mags
Mine don't have the meat to cut them down.

Figures, or someone would have. I pondered it when wheels weren't present and when they were I never thought to check. But they get thin at the bead, I do recall. Also, different type bead design between the two diameters.
I have one tire on that last set keep losing air. After a couple attempts by the lame tire store in town, second time they supposedly dressed the bead and used sealer, I went to a commercial tire place and they discovered a hairline crack between two slots...and no sealant nor any corrosion at the bead. I'll never even take a tire/wheel in my town's shop for a dismount. I am very done with them. Anyway, I had it repaired at an alloy wheel repair place ($150) who did an excellent job. All this to run them a few hundred miles. They were perfect on my unrestored survivor |

Found some M/T Challengers today.
16x7 - 8x6.5 think they'll make old blue look like 1978 again |
Re: 8 lug slot mags
Great find. I didn't think they ever made 8-lug.

Great find! I went the 17" route for my crew build.

Re: 8 lug slot mags
I know they stopped offering the Challenger in 8-lug before they stopped offering 6-lug. I didn't pay any attention to them when they first came out because original slots were all around and 16.5 tires weren't an issue.
So, the larger center bore and wider bolt pattern can be accepted by the new 17s, ey? Did they make them up like that or did you have to buy blanks and have the machining done? I assumed these wouldn't work for 8-lug until now. |
