Removing Transmission Pan, 1974 C10
Hello everyone. I have a quick question.
I'm going to service the TH350 in my 1974 C10, looking at the trans pan under the truck do you have to jack up the trans or remove the crossmember in order to remove the rear pan bolts? Right now there is no way I could get to the rear pan bolts. Seems like a poor design to me.. Thanks -Gavin |

It's a little tight, I'll bet that your trans mount is completely collapsed though

I have seen that tight fit before. I'm sure a 1/4" drive will slide in there.

A 1/4" drive with a sloppy extension works nicely.

I jacked up trans a bit to access those rear pan bolts...of course don't forget to loosen the bolts that hold the trans to the crossmember

A socket with a built-in universal joint worked for me when even a regular socket on a universal joint would not work. This is what I used (generic photo pulled off web):
