I just got my 1968 C10 delivered today. i bought it from a gentleman in east Oregon, and it just got delivered this afternoon. He was the third owner and swears that the mileage is original at 90,000. It is in good shape, just has some warts that you would expect of a 50 year old truck.

It's a 292, 4 speed, looks to be a 3.73 rear end.

Here are some pics:

It looks like it might be a California truck. it is from Fremont, and it appear to have the remains of the AIR system:

Re: My new 68

Awesome! Should be a 3.73 because its a 6, unless it was optioned with something else or swapped. Congrats!

Re: My new 68

The SPID doesn't mention any optional read end options, so I figured it was a 3.73.

to be politically correct.... we dont call them warts, no, we call them thorns

is that some sort of solonoid attached to the manifold.

parts of the A.I.R. system?

its a beautiful truck

Re: My new 68

That's what I think it is. Looks like some sort of idle speed limitor for emissions maybe? The wire goes inside and hooks to the flux capacitor.

Re: My new 68

It's got 16" wheels on it with what look like 8 ply or 10 ply truck tires. They are very skinny. 1 rim that is on the truck is a split rim, as is the spare, and the rest are normal rims.

I think I'm going to install some 15 x 6 disk brake wheels from a later model blazer. Not sure if the hub caps will still fit.

Re: My new 68

My '68 C/10 w/292 L6 is also a Fremont [Z] truck and had Calif. emissions A.I.R. gear [once]. I thought the bracket was on the passenger side and Power Steering brackets were on the drivers side. But I could be wrong, it's happened before.
Anyway, save that bracket as it might be useful if you to add want P/S.
P/S is a rare feature on trucks w/ the 292 L6, as most of them were fleet trucks or ordered for other no-frills occupations like agriculture.

Re: My new 68

those 15 x 6 blazer rims are kinda hard to come by, But if you hunt around government surplus yards around an army post or where government vehicles are surplused out, you will find them. Make sure they are not bent befor you leave with them.

linseed oil on that wood will preserve it with dignity until you are ready to replace it. 1 qt will do the entire bed.

That's is a nice color, I really like it with the white.

How bout getting a small amount of matching green and painting the accents on the caps green that should help break up the white.

Nice looking truck. I bought one last May out of CA. and it had the original smog control items on it with the 250 six cyc. The first thing I did was remove the smog items and installed the PS. It was a big improvement.

Yeah, too much white with the caps painted. There are 3 different styles of caps on the truck. I may not use any caps with the 15" steelies.

How did you get the tubes out of the head? Just use a flare nut wrench? or were they really rusted in?

Cool daddy0! My buddy had one of those in that color back in the day... it would do that longest one wheel burnouts you've ever seen! :bo2:

I personally like hubcaps on these trucks. But I know they can get pricey, and difficult to find nice ones.

Beauty of a truck. I wish I had it.

Re: My new 68

Nice whats your plans with it? I'm assuming new wood in the bed are you planning on keeping the 6 cylinder or maybe swap it for 350 Small Block. You could just fix the oil leaks and clean it up have a daily driver.

Re: My new 68

I'm planning on keeping the 292. I am wrestling with keeping the 4 speed or putting in a t5 to get the overdrive. I'll probably put in discs brakes, maybe power steering.

Nice find!

From what I've been able to determine, it would appear that 68 1/2 ton manuals had A.I.R. nationwide.
