Wood Bed Floor for GMT400
 

I am a big fan of how a nice wood floor looks in the older GM Trucks.

Opinions on doing this on a GMT400 series truck? I don't think it would work or be a good idea to just put the wood and strips on top of the metal floor. If done right it would look great.

If I could put a TRUE wood bed in my 89, I would do it in a heartbeat. Quarter sawn butterfly maple would look beautiful. I've already scoped out a few trees around the county that would make great saw logs.

As for the wood bed kits that sit on top of the steel bed, no way. Just another place to trap debris and moisture to rust and rot the whole bed.

The biggest thing I hate about my 78 stepside is the wood bed floor, its terrible. I guess for looks but it just looks like a less useful truck bed to me.

I think if you put it down over the metal it will trap water and rot very quickly (If you plan to use the truck at all).

I found a steel floor bed for my '71, not going to miss that wood floor at all.

Keep in mind, we use these for farm trucks, not show vehicles.

I've been considering doing this in my 95. Only thing I worry about right now is I don't have somewhere indoors to keep the truck and like others have said I'm afraid it will trap moisture if I leave it outside. If I do it I won't be using a kit though. I will enlist my father in law to help me and we'll do it ourselves. Have thought about using strips out of an 70's stepside or similar and painting them satin black. Do a light colored wood with tons of polyurethane. I really think it could look super nice.
