barn door seal / weather strip suggestions
Hello all,
It's rainy season here in Florida, and my rear doors are leaking like a sieve. Looking in from the top of the barn doors, I can see daylight through, so I'm guessing the PO didn't install the correct seals for my '72 Burb. Any suggestions for good replacement seals, or even better pictures of what a good seal installed looks like? Thanks! -Greg |
Re: barn door seal / weather strip suggestions
Have you tried adjusting the door hinges? I don't have barn doors but the upper and lower gates on my Burban have room for a lot of adjustment and I went through the same issue on my upper gate this spring. And after some careful application of grease on the seal and moving the gate around I was able to get it to seal. I used a black grease that would show up easily on the white paint where ever the seal was touching. This made it easy to see what areas were contacting and which areas were not.
Maybe this helps. |

Here are some photos: exterior view of top of barn doors. Passenger side - major leaking side - a bit higher than the driver side: a view from the top of the truck to show the seals: a view from inside the truck, facing to the back of the truck, with doors fully closed. You can see the passenger side has a large gap. same view, but showing more of the passenger door: same view, but showing bottom of the doors: I'll show the hinges too. Looks like I have some method to adjust. |

Looks like I can shift the doors up a bit, and possibly tilt the top side in. I'll use your tip with the black grease to see if that can solve my problem. |

Yikes! And I thought my deformed gate had a big gap. Good luck.
