Gm 5.7 vortec engine help
 

Can anyone verify if I put a gm 5.7 crate engine in my 72 k10 will all the factory asseseries bolt back on with any trouble. Stock exhaust manifolds, A/C , power steering ect. I know about the fuel pump and intake issue. Also Wasn't sure what guys are doing about the oil fill tube if there was after market valve covers that would adapt it. Wanting to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. Also will the stock crank pulley bolt on the harmonic balancer.

It should bolt right in. The block is a SBC block. What make the Vortec different are the heads. I'm running a ZZ4 350 with a factory serpentine set up with no issues. I am not using the viscous fan, but rather electric fans.

Looks nice. I'm wanting to use all my factory parts. One of threads I read said the vortec had a thicker timing cover and might cause problems with the water pump, but I have no knowledge on this

I have the GM Performance 350HO Deluxe in my truck (2WD). When I bought it, GM included everything except the starter, fuel pump and serpentine accessory drive setup. After I changed the flexplate to a 168 tooth piece and replaced the long water pump with a short one, everything bolted up except the A/C due to the Vortec head/intake design. I needed to fabricate 2 or 3 A/C brackets.

EDIT: Regarding the oil fill tube, not all of the 67-72 trucks used the tube. I don't think that came until 71 or 72 or maybe only in 4WD. My 69 came with the oil fill hole in the left valve cover and no tube. I have always used a funnel to replace the oil. I used the same valve cover holes for the same purposes as my original engine (oil fill at rear of left valve cover, PCV near front of left valve cover and original 350 breather assembly at rear of right valve cover). The problem with the tube is that the brace that bolts to the intake is not appropriate for the Vortec intake.

I also have pictures of a template for one of the A/C brackets and a picture with measurements for the other if needed.

Just thought about another need... The fuel line to the Holley if you want a hard line. If I remember correctly I bought a line setup from The Right Stuff for a 1968Camaro Z-28 (302). It required minor tweaking. http://www.getdiscbrakes.com/fpc67zz

Don't quote me, but I am pretty sure not all vortec blocks (blocks originally used for roller cams) came with the provision for a mechanical fuel pump.

The GM Performance crate engine I talked about in post 4 has the provision for a mechanical fuel pump.
